Long Beach State Remains Unbeaten With 3-0 Win Over Weber State

Cherrie Cox scores twice to climb the career record books as the Beach improve to 4-0-1
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State continued their historic start to the 2026 season Saturday night, defeating Weber State 3-0 at George Allen Field behind a brace from Cherrie Cox and another dominant defensive performance.
Long Beach State improved to 4-0-1, marking the first time in program history the Beach has gone unbeaten through the first five matches of a season. Long Beach State also extended their season-opening shutout streak to five consecutive matches and have yet to allow a goal through 450 minutes of play.
Cox scored once in each half to record her second multi-goal performance in the last three matches, while Kailey Supa added the final goal of the night. Ameera White finished with two assists, with Supa and Taylor Bellotti also recording assists.
Long Beach State controlled the match from the opening whistle, forcing Weber State goalkeeper Lauren Butorac into a save just 23 seconds into the contest on a shot from Radisson Banks.
After Weber State produced their lone shot on goal in the third minute, the Beach took command of the remainder of the opening half.
Cox tested Butorac twice in the opening 14 minutes, putting both attempts on frame, while Long Beach State continued to generate opportunities with three corner kicks over the first 19 minutes.
The breakthrough came in the 29th minute.
Supa and White combined to set up Cox, who finished give Long Beach State a 1-0 advantage. It was Cox's fifth goal of the season and continued a fantastic opening month for the senior.
The Beach carried the 1-0 lead into halftime after outshooting Weber State 9-1 and putting five shots on goal compared to just one for the Wildcats. Long Beach State also held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks during the opening 45 minutes.
Long Beach State wasted no time doubling their advantage after the break.
Just 32 seconds into the second half, White connected with Cox, who scored again at 45:32 to make it 2-0. The goal completed Cox's second brace in three matches after she recorded the first hat trick of her career at Fresno State on Aug. 20.
Cox continued to threaten after her second goal, putting another attempt on frame in the 68th minute before exiting the match with two goals on six shots, including five shots on goal.
The two-goal performance moved Cox further up the Long Beach State career record book. After entering the season with 23 career goals and 57 points, Cox now has 29 goals, 11 assists and 69 points during her career at the Beach.
With 29 career goals, Cox moved into a tie with Annette Fernandez for fifth place in program history, passing Lena Silano, Hayley Bolt and Lindsay Bullock during her six-goal start to the season. Cox now trails only Ashley Gonzales with 36, Janet Fettig with 33 and Nadia Link and Kim Silos with 32 apiece. She also moved past Lena Silano into seventh place on the Long Beach State career points list with 69.

Bellotti's assist was the first of her collegiate career, giving the freshman three points through her first five matches after scoring her first career goal and game-winner at Fresno State.
Supa finished the night with three points on a goal and an assist, while White recorded her second multi-assist performance in three games. White assisted on both of Cox's goals and now has six assists through the first five matches of the season.
Long Beach State's defense took care of the rest, limiting Weber State to six total shots and just one on goal. The Wildcats' only attempt on frame came in the third minute, when goalkeeper Amaya Sanles stopped Amanda Caswell.
Making her first start of her career in goal, Sanles finished with one save while playing all 90 minutes to earn the shutout and her first victory of the year. The Beach defense in front of her held Weber State without another shot on goal over the final 87 minutes.
Long Beach State finished with a 17-6 advantage in shots, putting nine attempts on target compared to one for Weber State.
