No. 8 Long Beach State Opens Triton Invitational With Two Wins

After not competing since 2019, Long Beach State doesn't miss a beat on its way to two wins Saturday.
La Jolla, Calif. — Before taking on Whittier College to open Triton Invitational play on Saturday, it had been 650 days since the Long Beach State men's water polo team competed together.
The No. 8-ranked Beach got right to work as they defeated the Poets, 20-5 to open the season.
Rafael Vergara scored four goals to lead a balanced attack as 12 Beach athletes found the back of the net to secure the victory.
In their afternoon contest, Matt Morris and Theodoros Pateros each scored four goals as LBSU defeated Cal Baptist 16-7 to wrap up the first day of action.
The Beach will be back in action on Sunday when they face Occidental at 8:30 a.m. and wrap up weekend play against host UC San Diego at 12:30 p.m.
