The Beach wraps up weekend play with wins against Occidental and UC San Diego.
La Jolla, Calif. — Wrapping up Triton Invitational play on Sunday, the No. 8 Long Beach State men's water polo team got things started with a dominating 18-5 victory against Occidental.
It was a balanced attack throughout the match as 13 different Beach athletes found the back of the cage.
Cooper Haddad scored three goals to lead the Beach to victory.
In the final match, the Beach face host and No. 9-ranked UC San Diego for the final contest of the tournament.
With 23 power plays throughout the match, the Beach went 6-for-13 on their extra-man opportunities as they defeated the Tritons 11-7 to go undefeated during the opening weekend.
Rafael Real Vergara shot early and often as he scored a game-high four goals in the match.
The difference in the match was Andrej Bosanac and the Beach defense that shut down the Triton offense after the game was tied 7-7 at halftime.
Bosanac was huge in the cage as he came up with two penalty shot saves and tallied nine saves in the match.
With the 4-0 start, it's the best start for Long Beach State since starting the season 6-0 during the 2016 season.
The Beach will be back in action next weekend when they compete in the Inland Empire Invitational.
