Connor Mannion scores three goals to lead the Beach.
Berkeley, Calif. — After trailing 3-0 to No. 11 San Jose State, No. 6 Long Beach State mounted the comeback to defeat the Spartans 10-8 to open play at the MPSF Tournament on Friday night.
Connor Mannion scored three goals to lead the Beach to the tightly contested match.
After trailing for three quarters, the Beach took its first lead in the fourth quarter after Mannion found the back of the net after a pass from Zach Frazier.
Evan Cain iced the game after he scored to put the Beach up two with 35 seconds remaining.
The Beach defense shutout out the Spartans in the final period.
Rafael Real Vergara and Theodoros Pateros scored two goals and Andrej Bosanac had six saves in the cage to lead LBSU to the victory.
The Beach will now take on No. 3 Cal on Saturday at Noon.
