LBSU Welcomes No. 21 San Diego to the Walter Pyramid for a Saturday Contest
Coming off of a 3-0 sweep of San Diego State on Tuesday, the Long Beach State women's volleyball team will welcome No. 21 San Diego to the Walter Pyramid. The Beach and the Toreros will face off on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. The contest will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Matt Brown on the call.

• Long Beach State is 5-5 on year after earning a 3-0 sweep of San Diego State on Tuesday.

• Avery Nelson, a senior outside hitter, has also been consistent this season as she averages 1.59 kills per set to go along with 0.91 digs per set and 0.38 blocks per set.
• Off the bench, Katie Kennedy and Dylan Dela Cruz have been productive for the Beach this season with Kennedy averaging 1.54 kills per set and 0.75 digs per set, while Dela Cruz adds 1.44 digs per set.
Scouting San Diego
• San Diego comes into the match against Long Beach State ranked 21st in the country as the Toreros are 5-2 this season.
• The Toreros have won three straight contests since Sept. 4 with victories over Cal Poly (3-0), UCLA (3-2), and San Diego State (3-1).
• As a team, USD is hitting .218 and averaging 12.5 kills per set on 11.6 assists per set.
• The Toreros' defense has posted 13.7 digs per set and an impressive 3.2 blocks per set which ranks the squad fourth in the country.
• USD has three players averaging 3.00 or more kills per set. Grace Frohling and Katie Lukes lead the squad with 3.58 and 3.57 kills per set, while Kylie Pries is right behind them with 3.04 kills per set.

San Diego defeated LBSU in straight sets in 2019 and won, 3-1, in 2016. Long Beach State will be looking for its first win over USD since the Beach earned a 3-2 win in 2015. WHen playing in Long Beach, Calif., the Beach hold the series lead 9-4 over San Diego.

Long Beach State junior outside hitter Kashauna Williams has accumulated 914 kills thus far during her collegiate career. This season, she is averaging 4.71 kills per set and is on pace to hit the 1,000 career kill mark during the 2021 campaign. Â

Senior middle blocker Miranda Canez continues her hotting hitting as she has knocked down 51 kills on 108 swings, while committing just seven errors for an attack percentage of .407, which leads the Beach. On the year, Canez is averaging 1.31 kills per set to go along with 0.51 blocks per set.
You Lovett to See it
Freshman outside hitter Erykah Lovett has adjusted very well to collegiate action. The Newnan, Ga., native is second on the squad with 3.05 kills per set, which ranks her seventh in the country. Additionally, Lovett leads the Big West in aces per set with 0.51. Lovett contributes on both sides of the ball as she adds 2.79 digs per set and 0.28 blocks per set in what is shaping up to be a solid rookie season.
Can You Dig It?
Sophomore libero Nicole Hoff has been solid in the back row for the Beach racking up 154 digs to average 3.95 digs per set which ranks her fifth in the Big West. Hoff has led Long Beach State in digs in 9-of-10 matches and has recorded double-digit digs in each contest this season. Joining Hoff in solid defensive performances this are junior Dylan Dela Cruz (1.44 digs per set), sophomore Tia Chavira (2.64 digs per set), and freshman Jenna Giambi (3.13 digs per set).
Helping Hands

Partyka got the start in the first six matches and has averaged 8.73 assists per set, while Chavira has earned the next four starts and has averaged 8.32 assists per set. Freshman middle blocker Kameron Bacon continues to set the standard for the Beach at the net. The product out of Fontana, Calif., leads Long Beach State with 28 total blocks (6 solo, 22 block assists) to average 0.82 blocks per set. She recorded a career-high seven blocks against Portland State and has since dominated at net. Additionally, Williams has recorded four 20-plus kill performances including a 22-kill showing against Gonzaga on Sept. 10.
