Long Beach State Returns Home to Host San Diego State
The Long Beach State women's volleyball team returns to the Walter Pyramid after a weekend in Pullman, Wash., to host San Diego State on Tuesday, September 14 at 7 p.m. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+ with Matt Brown on the call.

About the Beach
• Long Beach State owns a 4-5 overall record.
• The Beach are coming off of a 1-2 record at the Cougar Challenge in which they dropped 3-0 contests to host Washington State and Northern Iowa, and defeated Gonzaga in five sets.
• For the third-straight week, junior outside hitter Kashauna Williams was named to the All-Tournament Team.
• Williams averaged 4.73 kills on a .354 attack percentage on the weekend as she led the Beach.
• On the year, Williams owns a 4.61 kills per set average to lead the Big West and rank 19th in the nation. She also contributes 1.14 digs per set and 0.42 blocks per set, while hitting. 272.
• Another top offensive performer for the Beach has been freshman outside hitter Erykah Lovett who is averaging 3.08 kills per set to rank seventh in the Big West. She is also tops in the league in aces per set with 0.47, while adding 2.72 digs per set.
• Pacing the offense with their solid passing skills are setters Kasia Partyka and Tia Chavira. Partyka leads the way with 8.73 assists per set, while Chavira adds 7.53. Partyka earned the start in LBSU's first six matches, with Chavira getting the starting nod at the Cougar Challenge.
• Sophomore libero Nicole Hoff has led the Beach in digs in seven of Long Beach State's nine matches thus far. She leads the squad with 4.00 digs per set, a mark that ranks her fifth in the Big West Conference.
• At the net freshman middle blocker Kameron Bacon has been heating up as she has racked up 26 total blocks to lead the team with 0.84 blocks per set.
• Senior middle blocker Miranda Canez is the team leader in hitting percentage as the Albuquerque, N.M., native is hitting .429 on the year. She has knocked down 48 kills on 98 swings, while committing just six attack errors. Additionally, Canez is also second on the squad in blocks per set with 0.50.
• Avery Nelson, a senior outside hitter, has also been consistent this season as she averages 1.59 kills per set to go along with 0.91 digs per set and 0.38 blocks per set.
• Off the bench, Katie Kennedy and Dylan Dela Cruz have been productive for the Beach this season with Kennedy averaging 1.05 kills per set and 0.81 digs per set, while Dela Cruz adds 1.34 digs per set.

Scouting San Diego State
• San Diego State comes into the match against Long Beach State with a 1-7 overall record.
• The Aztecs' lone win this season came at the hands of UC Santa Barbara as SDSU defeated the Gauchos in straight sets in Santa Barbara, Calif., on Sept. 3
• SDSU, meanwhile, is looking to snap a four-match losing streak as they have dropped contests to Pepperdine (3-1), Kansas State (3-1), UCLA (3-0), and San Diego (3-1).
• As a team, San Diego State is hitting .194, while averaging 12.1 kills per set on 11.6 assists per set. 
• Defensively, the Aztecs are averaging 13.3 digs per set and 1.8 blocks per set.
• The Aztecs are led offensively by Victoria O'Sullivan who is averaging 3.31 kills per set on a .229 attack percentage. O'Sullivan also averages 0.83 digs per set and 0.52 blocks per set.
• At setter, San Diego State platoons Noa Miller and Ashley Vanderpan. Miller leads the way with 6.22 assists per set in 18 sets played, while Vanderpan has notched 4.31 assists per set in 29 sets played.
• Sara Mukaj leads the team in service aces with seven to average 0.26 per set. She also adds 0.59 kills per set, 0.59 digs per set, and 0.81 blocks per set. Her blocks per set average leads the squad as she has racked up 22 total blocks.
•  In the back row, libero Natalie Smith paces the defense with 4.24 digs per set as she has logged 123 digs over 29 sets played. She has also contributed 23 assists and three aces on the year.

The Series: The Beach vs. The Aztecs
Long Beach State and San Diego State will meet for the 61st time in program history and the Beach holds the edge in the all-time series 32-28. However, the Aztecs have won the last three meetings with the Beach in 2019, 2017, and 2016. Prior to that, the two teams last met in 2001 when Long Beach State swept San Diego State, in Long Beach, Calif. When playing each other in Long Beach, the Beach lead the series 16-12.

All-Tourney All The Time
Long Beach State junior outside hitter Kashauna Williams has been named to an all-tournament team in each of the last three weeks. She kicked off the 2021 season with a nod to the All-Boise State Tournament, then followed that up with a showing on the Long Beach State All-Tournament Team. Last week, the Beach concluded their series of tournaments at the Cougar Challenge hosted by Washington State and Williams once again garnered all-tournament honors. This season, Williams leads the team and the Big West with 4.61 kills per set while hitting .272. Her kills per set average is also good for 19th in the country.

Hot Hitting
Senior middle blocker Miranda Canez continues her hotting hitting as she has knocked down 48 kills on 98 swings, while committing just six errors for an attack percentage of .429, which leads the Beach. Last weekend, Canez did not commit one attack error as she hit .438 (14-0-32) at the Cougar Challenge. The Albuquerque, N.M., native is averaging 1.33 kills per set, while also ranking second on the squad with 18 blocks to average 0.50 blocks per set.

You Lovett to See it
Freshman outside hitter Erykah Lovett has not missed a beat since making her collegiate debut three weeks ago. The Newnan, Ga., native is second on the team with 3.08 kills per set which ranks her seventh in the Big West. She is also leading the Beach with 17 aces to average 0.47 aces per set which is tops in the league. Additionally, Lovett has shown her versatility as she averages 2.72 digs per set and 0.28 blocks per set. 

Can You Dig It?
Sophomore libero Nicole Hoff has been solid in the back row for the Beach racking up 144 digs to average 4.00 digs per set which ranks her fifth in the Big West. Her efforts earned her Big West Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors after the first week of the season and just last week, at the Cougar Challenge, Hoff tallied double-figure digs in each match to bring her season total to nine double-digit dig performances in as many matches. Additionally Hoff logged a double-double versus Dixie State (8/28) with 13 assists and a career-high 22 digs. 

Helping Hands
Long Beach State has platooned both freshman Kasia Partyka and sophomore Tia Chavira at setter this season. Partyka got the start in the first six matches and has averaged 8.73 assists per set, while Chavira earned the start at all three matches at the Cougar Challenge. Chavira is averaging 7.53 assists per set to go along with 2.63 digs per set, which is good for second on the squad. In the Big West, the pair rank sixth and eighth, respectively, in assists per set.

Block Party
Freshman middle blocker Kameron Bacon continues to set the standard for the Beach at the net. The product out of Fontana, Calif., leads Long Beach State with 26 total blocks (6 solo, 20 block assists) to average 0.84 blocks per set. She recorded a career-high seven blocks against Portland State and has since dominated at net. Coming in behind Bacon is senior middle blocker Miranda Canez who has recorded 18 total blocks (2 solo, 16 block assists) to average 0.50 blocks per set.

Kashing In
Junior outside hitter Kashauna Williams has continued her hot start to the 2021 season. The Los Angeles, Calif., native leads both the Beach and the Big West with 4.61 kills per set, a mark that ranks her 19th in the nation. She has racked up 166 kills in 36 sets and has reached double-figures in each match this season leading LBSU in kills in all nine contests thus far. Additionally, Williams has recorded four 20-plus kill performances including a 22-kill showing against Gonzaga last weekend. She kicked off the year with a season-high 25 kills against Montana State, which was just one kill shy of her career-high.

Double-Double Toil And Trouble
Long Beach State has had several solid performances this season including 11 double-doubles by five different players in nine matches. Leading the way is freshman Erykah Lovett who has logged six double-doubles in just nine matches. Sophomore Tia Chavira has posted two double-doubles this season, while Kashauna Williams, Nicole Hoff, and Kasia Partyka each have tallied one double-double so far.

Among the Big West
Long Beach State has five players who rank in the top 10 in the Big West. Leading the way is junior outside hitter Kashauna Williams who leads the league in kills per set with 4.61. Also leading the conference is freshman outside hitter Erykah Lovett whose 0.47 aces per set is top in the Big West. Lovett's name also appears in kills per set as she is seventh with 3.08. Freshman setter Kasia Partyka comes in sixth in the league with 8.73 assists per set, while sophomore setter Tia Chavira is eighth in the conference with 7.53 assists per set. Lastly, sophomore libero Nicole Hoff ranks fifth with 4.00 digs per set.

On a National Scale
In the nation, Long Beach State has two players who rank in the top 100. Junior outside hitter Kashauna Williams' 4.61 kills per set are good for 19th in the nation, while her 4.96 points per set rank her31st. Additionally, freshman outside hitter Erykah Lovett's 0.47 aces per set rank her 83rd in the country..

Next Up
Long Beach State is set to host No. 21 San Diego to close out the preseason, before welcoming Big West competition in Cal Poly, CSU Bakersfield, and Cal State Fullerton. The Beach will face the nationally ranked Toreros on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 4 p.m. The match will be broadcast on ESPN+.

Big West Conference action begins on Friday, Sept. 24 against Cal Poly with first serve set for 7 p.m. LBSU will then host CSU Bakersfield on Saturday, Sept. 25 at 4 p.m., before hosting Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday, Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
