From three different levels, all three players led their teams to successful seasons before coming to the Beach.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State Men's Basketball is proud to announce three impact transfers will join the program for the upcoming 2021-22 season. The trio includes one Division I transfer and two others moving up after postseason runs of their own one season ago.

Eddie Scott, 6-6, Bowie, Md.
(Pennsylvania/Gonzaga College HS)

Eddie Scott returns to Division I after the Ivy League canceled competition during the 2020-21 season in which the Quakers veteran was set to serve as team captain. Scott, who started 11 games for Penn during the prior 2019-20 season that was shortened also due to the pandemic, scored 18 points against Yale and earned a start against the Beach at the Wooden Legacy in Anaheim earlier in that same year.

After an injury ended his freshman season, Scott went on to play in 44 games over the next two seasons and leaves Penn after scoring just under 200 points and making over 100 rebounds while averaging 11.7 minutes per game in his career with the Quakers. Prior to heading to Philadelphia, Scott starred at Gonzaga College High School, leading the team to a 32-5 record including Washington Catholic Athletic Conference and DC State Athletic Association championships.

Monson on Scott:
"Eddie brings a maturity to our program both on and off the court. He was scheduled to be a captain this season at Penn, and received an Ivy league degree this past spring. He is another very versatile player who can play multiple positions, can score inside and out, and can guard 1-4. I think he can step in immediately and have a positive impact on this team on and off the court."

Joel Murray, 6-0, Rowlett, Texas
(West Texas A&M/Rowlett HS)

Fresh off of leading West Texas A&M to the Division II National Championship game, Joel Murray joins Long Beach State as a transfer as one of the best players in Division II. Murray averaged 23.3 points, 6.2 rebounds and 4.2 assists per game and was a two-time All-American at the Division II level.

He scored a career-high 37 points and was a three-time Lone Star All-Conference and All-Defensive team selection over three seasons with the Buffs. He ended his career as a 1,000 point scorer at West Texas in three seasons and piling up 174 assists over three seasons. He comes to Long Beach State with two years of eligibility remaining.

Monson on Murray:
"Joel has the skill set to be a very good player for us. He can score in a variety of ways, as well as defend and rebound, and he plays unselfishly. With all that being said, what jumped out to me is him being a leader in a program that has gone 51-4 over the last two seasons.  We were attracted to his winning mentality and demeanor."

Romon Douglas-Watkins, 6-6, Peoria, Ill.
(John A Logan CC/ Otero CC/Manuel HS)

Romon Douglas-Watkins is an athletic wing player who will make the jump to Division I after two full seasons at the junior college level. As a freshman, Douglas-Watkins started 21 games at Otero CC, averaging 16.2 points per game and 8.6 rebounds per game.

After the New Mexico CC season was canceled due to the pandemic, Douglas-Watkins was able to join John A. Logan College, where he started in 22 games and averaged 12.7 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He helped the Vols capture the NCJCAA Central District championship, and scored 17 points with 7 rebounds in the first round of the NJCAA National Championship Tournament.

Monson on Douglas-Watkins:
"Romon also plays the game to win. In the first conversation I had with him the conviction he expressed to play defense and do the little things to help his team win really made me excited to recruit him and have him as part of our program. Romon is a very versatile guard that can play multiple positons and affect the game in a positive way with the many facets of his game."

The trio will join high school signees AJ George and Corey Yerger at the Beach next season. Read more about George and Yerger here.
