Decathlon Results
EUGENE, Ore. – Aaron Booth concluded the men's Decathlon on Thursday setting a new Long Beach State record and finishing sixth for the event, the highest placement in the NCAA Championships for the Beach since 2008.
The 7,644 point total beats out the previous school record by set by Chris Richardson (7,605) back in 2006 and ranked best among every mid-major school competing in the event.
The sixth-place finish also gives Long Beach State three points for the NCAA Championships, the most for the program since 2014.
The junior transfer got his day started posting a season-best in the 110m Hurdles with a time of 15.35 (+0.1) for 808 points. He followed that up with another season-best in the Discus throwing 42.16m (138-4) for 709 points. His mark in Discus was good for a sixth-place finish.
Booth had his best performance of the week in the third event of the day matching his lifetime-best in the Pole Vault. Finishing fifth for the event, he cleared 4.71m (15-5.5) for 822 points.
Javelin was next on the list, and he improved with each of his three throws finishing with a mark of 57.24m (187-9) on his final attempt. That throw would give him his second consecutive fifth-place finish on the day.
Needing 642 points for the number one spot on LBSU's all-time list, the New Zealand native posted a time of 4:39.95 in the 1500m for a score of 681 and beating the record by 39 points.
With the sixth-place finish, he has secured All-American First Team honors for the third time in his collegiate career. Overall, it is his fifth All-American performance and his third in the outdoor season.
Jason Smith will wrap up the 2021 season and look to add to the point total for the Beach tomorrow afternoon as he competes in the men's High Jump at 4:30 p.m. The event will be streamed HERE.
