Washington Ties School Record in Triple Jump, LBSU Closes Out Jumps Fest

The Beach won three jump events on Saturday headlined by Crystal Washington tying the school record in the women’s Triple Jump.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State picked up three event wins in the Jumps Fest at the Jack Rose Track, including Crystal Washington tying the school record in the women's Triple Jump.
It is the third-straight week that Washington has improved on her lifetime-best, only this time she jumped into a tie for the best Triple Jump mark in program history. At 41 feet, one inch the junior matches the record that was set by Miia Mobley back in 2008.
Jason Smith picked up yet another victory in the men's Long Jump, posting a 7.65m mark. The win marks his third in the event this season, and sixth total in 2021.
Porte Joie Tshiaba got back into the win column in the men's High Jump, topping the competition at 2.12m. He now has three wins in the event this year.
Preston Sladek posted a new career-best at 4.81m in men's Pole Vault which tied for the top spot in the LBSU Jumps Fest. Aaron Booth finished right behind Sladek, claiming third-place with a personal best at 4.51m.
On the women's side, Clare Gibson saw her undefeated streak come to an end. Her mark of 1.75m put her in second place in women's High Jump.
Sydney Barnes posted her best mark of the 2021 season at 5.43m in the women's Long Jump. She came out with a fourth-place finish.
The Beach will be back in action next week at the Big West Multi-Event, beginning on Friday afternoon in Irvine.
