
Long Beach State Competes in Big West Multi-Event Championships This Week

The outdoor track and field team will have four student-athletes competing at the championship in Irvine this week.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State will send four student-athletes to Irvine this week to participate in the Big West Multi-Event Championships, hosted by UC Irvine.
Sydney Barnes and Hailey Fune will represent the Beach on the women's side, while Aaron Booth and Justin Yaskowitz will go for the men.
The women's Heptathlon begins at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and will include the 100m Hurdles, High Jump, Shot Put and 200m Dash. Things will wrap up on Saturday with the Long Jump, Javelin, and 800m with the first events starting at 1:00 p.m.
The men's Decathlon begins at 2:30 p.m. on Friday with the 100m Dash, Long Jump, Shot Put, High Jump, and 400m Run. The final five events, 110 Hurdles, Discus, Pole Vault, Javelin, and 1,500m Run, will take place on Saturday beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Barnes finished sixth at the Big West Multi-Event Championship back in 2019 with a score of 4532. Her best event that year was the Javelin where she had the fourth-best throw.
Booth has a strong history in the Decathlon from his time at Kansas State. The junior transfer competed in the NCAA Championships back in 2019 positing a score of 7680, good for sixth place.
A pair of true freshman, Fune and Yaskowitz will be competing in a multi-event for the first time in their young collegiate career.
