LBSU Celebrates Senior Day, Wraps Up Long Beach Invitational

The Long Beach State jumpers claimed the top spot in four of the eight events, including a 1-2 finish in Long Jump.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State track and field wrapped up the Long Beach Invitational at the Jack Rose Track with four event wins. All four wins came in the jump events, including a win for both men's and women's in the High Jump.

The day started with the Long Jump on Saturday, and the Beach got off to a great start as Jason Smith and Aaron Booth finished 1-2 on the men's side. Smith's 7.56m was the top spot with Booth coming n behind him at 7.27m, a new season-best for the junior.

In the High Jump, Jason Smith went toe to toe with the fourth-best jumper in the nation and came out with a tie for the top spot matching his lifetime-best at 2.20m.

While he may have lost his undefeated streak, Porte Joie Tshiaba also posted a career-best at 2.17m giving him a third place finish.

Michael Magula recorded his third win of the season in Pole Vault posting a season-best 4.96m mark while Micqwaun Write also notched a season-best 14.20m to take home second-place in the Triple Jump.

Clare Gibson made it a High Jump sweep claiming the top spot on the women's side with a season-best 1.70m.

In the Pole Vault, the Beach had two tie for fourth with a mark of 3.50m in Mikayla Ray and Kyla Meyer. For Meyer, that is a new career-best. Ciera Muscarella also posted a new career-best at 3.35m.

Crystal Washington closed out the Jumps events with a lifetime-best mark of 12.25m, good for a third-place finish.

Justin Watterson got things going on the track participating in both the 110m Hurdles and the 400m Hurdles. In the 110m, the freshman shattered his personal best with a time of 14.84 putting him in third place. In the 400m, he took home the top spot with a time of 57.53 to set his collegiate best.

Trevor Williams matched his career-best in the 200m Dash with a tie of 22.47 to wrap up the weekend for the Beach.

Just as they did yesterday, the Long Beach State distance runners competed in the Bryan Clay Invitational at Azusa Pacific University.

Ryley Fick and Brieanna Tafoya ran in the 800m Run for the Beach at APU. Fick finished just shy of her personal best with a time of 4:37.41 while Tafoya posted a new career-best mark of 4:39.71 qualifying her for the Big West Championships.

Long Beach State returns to action next week at the Matador Invitational hosted by CSUN.
