Dirtbags Head North for Three-Game Series with Pacific

Long Beach State will play a non-conference series this weekend against the University of the Pacific.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State hits the road this weekend as they head up north to Stockton, Calif. for a three-game series with the Pacific Tigers.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Dirtbags split their four-game series againts Cal Poly last weekend with wins in games one and three.
• Friday was a 7-0 Dirtbag victory, their first shutout of a Big West opponent since May 19, 2019.
• In game one on Saturday, the Dirtbags struggled offensively until the ninth inning where they scored five runs. Unfortunately, the rally came up short falling 7-5.
• Game two of the doubleheader was a pitchers' dual on both sides, but LBSU came out on top with a 2-1 victory.
• In the series finale, the Mustangs just outplayed the Dirtbags to force a series split with a 5-1 victory.
ABOUT THE DIRTBAGS
• The Dirtbags were picked to finish second in the Big West Conference pre-season coaches' poll behind conference favorite UC Santa Barbara.
• After an original schedule release of conference-only games, Long Beach State will get some non-conference action this week playing a three-game series at Pacific.
• With four series of Big West play under their belt, Long Beach State sits in sixth with a .500 record at 8-8.
• The pitching staff continues to be lead the Dirtbags as their 3.45 team ERA ranks third-best in the conference, while the .229 opponents' average is second. They also rank second with 158 strikeouts.
• The offense continues to rank in the middle of the pack in conference play sitting in seventh with a slash line of .259/.386/.346. They do rank third in the Big West with 13 home runs and 27 doubles.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
• Pacific enters the weekend with an 8-21 record and 0-9 in the West Coast Conference
• The Tigers are fresh off a loss on Wednesday against nationally ranked Stanford. The Cardinal shutout Pacific in a 2-0 win.
• The Tigers are hitting .242 as a team thus far led by James Arakawa's .337 average. Alex LeForestier isn't far behind with a .315 clip and leads the team with a .418 OBP. Thomas Gavello has been the source of power with 2 homers, 5 doubles, and a .432 slugging.
• Pacific's pitching staff has struggled this year posting a 5.61 ERA while opponents hit .302 against them. Hayden Pearce has been the best starter thus far with a 3.86 ERA in 37.1 innings pitched while Nick Swanson's 2.92 ERA out of the bullpen ranks tops on the team.
• The Dirtbags lead the all-time series 79-26, but the Tigers won the last series the two teams met taking 2 of 3 in Stockton back in 2013.
