Graves, Tafoya Finish Top Two; LBSU Completes Anteater Distance Twilight

The Long Beach State outdoor track and field team sent their distance runners to Irvine on Thursday night and picked up a win in the women’s 800m run.

IRVINE, Calif. – Long Beach State finished up the Anteater Distance Twilight with an event win and several new personal bests for the student-athletes.
The Beach finished 1-2 in the women's 800m beating the competition by almost five seconds. Defending Big West Female Track Athlete of the Week, Anitha Graves, took home the win with a 2:14.78 mark, two seconds ahead of teammate, Brieanna Tafoya. For Tafoya, her time of 2:16.99 marks a new personal best.
Sophia Stephan posted a personal best in the women's 1500m Run, posting a time of 5:05.81. Ryley Fick posted a personal best of her own in the women's 5000m with a time of 17:24.40, good for fourth place.
On the men's side, the trio of Raymon Ornelas (15:02.30), Ricky Villa (15:08.66), and Ricky Cardenas (15:24.13) all finished in the top five of the 5000m Run, placing second, third, and fifth, respectively. Villa's time was good for a new personal best in the event.

Alex Frias posted a new personal best in the men's 800m with a time of 2:02.84, while Arturo Sotomayor posted a personal best in the men's 1500m with a 3:53.62 mark.

The rest of the track and field team will head to Los Angeles, Calif. on Saturday to participate in the Bob Larsen Track Meet, hosted by UCLA.
