LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State is set for a pair of events in their second week of the season, participating in the Anteater Distance Twilight, hosted by UC Irvine, on Thursday and the Bob Larsen Track Meet, hosted by UCLA, on Saturday.
The Beach distance runners will see all the action on Thursday at UC Irvine. Led by Anitha Graves, the team put up some solid times at the Trojan Invitational. Graves' time of 2:12.11 placed sixth at the event, but currently ranks third in the Big West and put her at number ten in LBSU's all-time records. She was named the Big West Women's Track Athlete of the Week on Tuesday by the conference.
Ryley Fick and Brieanna Tafoya both finished top four in the 1500m Run during the opening weekend, with both of their times being new personal bests.
Everyone else will see action at UCLA on Saturday as part of the Bob Larsen Track Meet, led by the defending Big West Men's Field Athlete of the Week, Porte Joie Tshiaba.
Tshiaba posted a 2.15m mark in the Men's High Jump, winning the event and putting him in a tie for third-best in the nation. That height also leads the conference and puts the sophomore's name at number six on the all-time list in Long Beach State history.
Michael Magula and Preston Sladek will look to continue their success after finishing 1-2, respectively, in the men's Pole Vault last week. For Sladek, it was a new personal best.
The throwers will also look to build on their first week performances, as they took home four podium spots including a 1-2 finish in men's Discus.
