Long Beach State Women's Water Polo Ready To Begin 2021 Season

No. 16 Beach takes on No. 5 UC Irvine on Saturday and Sunday.
Long Beach, Calif. — The Long Beach State women's water polo team is set to open its 2021 season this weekend with a home-and-home series against No. 5 UC Irvine.
The Beach will travel to Irvine to face the Anteaters at Anteater Aquatics Complex on Saturday with the match starting at noon.
Following their match Saturday, the Beach will host UCI Sunday at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center on Sunday with the match starting at noon.
This will be the first competition the Beach has played in since their 6-4 victory over UC San Diego last March.
ABOUT THE BEACH
-Long Beach State was given a No. 16 national ranking in the Collegiate Water Polo Association poll this week.
-The 2021 season will be Shana Welch's first season as head coach after serving as the Associate head coach last season.
-Junior Elena Kotanchyan is back with the beach after leading the team with 54 goals last season.
-The Beach will be without Orsi Hertzka who will be redshirting this season.
ABOUT UC IRVINE
-UCI (7-3) comes in at No. 15 after splitting its series with UC Davis last weekend.
-The Anteaters are led by Piper Smith who leads the team with 13 goals.

The Beach will travel up to UC Davis next weekend to take on the Aggies on Friday and Sunday.
