Women’s Water Polo Travels to No. 16 UCSD For Big West Play Friday; Faces Two East Coast Teams At Aztec Invite Saturday

The Beach will face the Tritons for the first time this season on Friday at 6 p.m. live on ESPN+.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Women's Water Polo will travel south as the team faces No. 16 UC San Diego for conference play on Friday night at the Canyonview Aquatics Complex and will participate in the Aztec Invite hosted by San Diego State, facing Bucknell and No. 9 Indiana on Saturday.
No. 8 Long Beach State (9-9, 2-1 Big West) cruised to a 20-5 victory over UC Santa Barbara (1-15, 0-4 Big West) this past weekend as Lucy Miszewski and Chiara Amoroso both added four goals in the win.
The Beach's leading scorer, Elisa Portillo, added a hat trick and a team-high four assists on the day and continues to lead the team with 43 goals, 33 assists, and 21 steals. Miszewski and Amoroso follow with 38 and 33 goals, respectively. Freshman Polina Synytsia continues her standout debut season for the Beach, recording 127 saves, eight steals, and three assists.
The first opponent of the weekend will be No. 16 UC San Diego (7-8, 2-2 Big West). The Tritons are coming off a road game at No. 5 Hawai'i after falling 13-9, led by hat tricks from freshman Anna Fazioli and senior Cascade Stensland. Leading UCSD this season is junior Abigail Schechter with 37 goals, while senior Sydney Munatones has a team-high 16 assists. On defense, senior goalkeeper Bria Zwaschka has recorded 127 saves, 26 steals, and five assists this season.
Continuing south, the Beach will take part in the Aztec Invitational hosted by San Diego State on Saturday. LBSU will face two East Coast programs, Bucknell (10-6, 1-3 CWPA) and No. 9 Indiana (12-3, 0-2 MPSF).
The Bison started their Spring Break on the West Coast, facing Occidental on Wednesday afternoon and cruising to a 16-1 win. Bucknell will play at the Aztec Invite on Friday and Saturday, facing Whittier, No. 19 San Diego State, No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer, and the Beach.
As well as Bucknell, the Hoosiers start their week-long trip facing No. 14 Princeton, No. 16 UC San Diego, No. 24 Pomona-Pitzer, and Long Beach State before heading to NorCal for a pair of MPSF matches against No. 18 San Jose State and No. 4 California next weekend.
