EUGENE, Ore. –
It was a battle inside Matthew Knight Arena as undefeated Long Beach State went up against No. 22 Oregon on Saturday afternoon. However, the Ducks managed to pull away in the fourth quarter as they handed the Beach their first loss of the season in a 68-59 battle.

The competitive match up saw five ties and eight lead changes between the two teams. Long Beach State (7-1) led by as many as four, while Oregon (5-3) led by as many as nine en route to snapping the Beach's seven-game winning streak.

Oregon opened the game with four-straight points, but Jasmine Hardy was quick to get the Beach on the board with a three to make it a one-point game (4-3). After Kianna Hamilton-Fisher evened the score at 6-6 with a three of her own, the Ducks jumped out in front taking a 12-8 lead at the media timeout. However, the Beach would not quit as Emily Sullivan came off the bench and beat the shot clock to even the score at 12-12. A three from Justina King gave Long Beach State its first lead of the game (15-13) with 17 seconds remaining in the quarter, but Oregon regained the lead taking a 16-15 lead into the second quarter.

King continued her hot shooting into the second quarter as she opened the frame with a three, followed by a jumper to put the Beach up 20-16 with 7:20 on the clock forcing an Oregon timeout. The break in action seemed to help the Ducks regroup as they came out and evened the score at 22-all as LBSU then called for a timeout. The second quarter was a battle that saw four lead changes and two ties. The final tie, 26-26, was broken by the Ducks as the hosts made two layups in the final 40 seconds to take a 30-26 lead into halftime.

The Beach came out of halftime shooting as King hit a jumper to start the quarter. However, Oregon would take a six-point lead after a three from Ahlise Hurst at 7:39. That did not deter Long Beach State as they battled back and evened the score at 39-39 with two made free throws from Hamilton-Fisher, before the Beach regained the lead on a made free throw from Hardy at 4:22. The lead was short-lived, however, as Oregon used a 9-2 run to take a six-point lead (48-42) with 37 seconds left in the quarter.

Long Beach State trailed Oregon by five (48-43) heading into the final 10 minutes of action. The Ducks shot 50.0-percent from the field in the fourth quarter and opened up their largest lead (56-47) over the Beach at 6:31. Once again, Long Beach State would not quit. The gritty Beach chipped away and whittled the Ducks' lead down to three (57-54) after going on a 5-1 run with 3:39 remaining in the game. Despite the Beach's effort, Oregon managed to pull away in the final minutes as the Ducks extended their lead back up to nine (68-59) as the clock expired.

King led the Beach with a season-high 18 points to go along with four steals, two rebounds, and two assists. Hamilton-Fisher came off the bench and tallied 12 points and two steals, while Maddi Utti finished with nine points, six boards and five assists. Berry led the way with six assists to go along with six rebounds, while Kristyna Jeskeova cleaned up the glass with eight rebounds, while adding four steals and two points.

Oregon's Hurst led all scorers with 19 points, while Maddie Scherr added 12 points, nine assists and seven boards. Sedona Prince finished the game with eight rebounds, seven points, and two blocks.

LBSU shot 32.8-percent from the field and held the lead over Oregon with 13 steals to the Ducks' four. The Beach also forced the Ducks into 21 turnovers. However, Oregon out-rebounded the Beach (42-32) and held the lead in blocks (6-1).

Long Beach State looks to get back on the winning track next week when the Beach hosts Portland State on Friday, December 17 at 2 p.m. at the Walter Pyramid. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
