The Long Beach State women's basketball team heads to Boise, Idaho for a Saturday afternoon contest against Boise State. The Beach and the Broncos will tip-off on November 13 at 2 p.m.

COVID-19 Notes
• Mask mandates remain in place in the Walter Pyramid and are anticipated to last throughout the season. Additionally, State of California regulations mandate all spectators for events inside the Walter Pyramid must provide either proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours of the event. That policy will be in place until further notice.
• If you are coming to the Walter Pyramid this season, please allow for extra time to enter the venue due to COVID-19 protocols as well as parking. Parking payment can be done in two ways, either at the parking machines on site or via the Parkmobile App.
About the Beach
• Long Beach State opened the 2021-22 season with an 80-61 victory over Biola on Tuesday at the Walter Pyramid as the Beach head to Boise State with a 1-0 overall record.
• The Beach were chosen to finish fourth in the Big West Preseason Coaches' Poll and second in the league's preseason media poll.
• Long Beach State returns nine letterwinners from a year ago including Big West All-Conference selections Justina King, Ma'Qhi Berry, and Patricia Chung.
• The Beach also welcome six newcomers - four transfers and two freshmen - highlighted by 2020 Mountain West Player of the Year Maddi Utti.
Player Notes
• Ma'Qhi Berry earned the start in the Beach's season opener and tallied nine points, three rounds, one assist, one steal and one block in an all-around solid showing.
• Maddi Utti made her Long Beach State debut and led the Beach with a double-double (12 points, 10 rebounds). The forward from Seaside, Ore., also added five assists, three steals and a block to set the tone for LBSU.
• Justina King, who was named to the Big West Preseason Team, earned the start against Biola and finished with nine points, five boards, five assists, and one steal. The point guard from Scarborough, Canada continues to lead the Beach both on and off the court. King currently has amassed 988 points in her career and is just 12 points shy of becoming the 26th player in Long Beach State women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.
• Junior guard Jasmine Hardy started for the Beach against Biola and finished with a team-best 12 points to go along with five rebounds and three steals. The versatile Hardy looks to continue to be a solid presence for the Beach on the court this season.
• Rounding out the starting five for the Beach was junior forward Lauren Green. Green returned to the court after sitting out last year due to an injury. She tallied four points and three boards in 17 minutes of action.
• Off the bench, Kianna Hamilton-Fisher came into the game for the Beach and scored 10 points, two rebounds, three steals, two assists, and one block in a solid outing.
• Also recording double-digits off the bench for Long Beach State was freshman guard Thea Mikkelsen who posted 10 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals in her collegiate debut.
• Freshmen Savannah Tucker and Patricia Chung each scored four points against Biola, while Tucker added two boards and a pair of assists.
• Junior Myrrah Joseph returned for her second season in Black & Gold and recorded four points, two rebounds, two steals, and one assist.
• Kristyna Jeskeova came into the game against Biola and logged three rebounds and a block in six and a half minutes of action.
• Brandy Huffhines made her Long Beach State debut on Tuesday and scored two points in four minutes of play after having transferred to the Beach from CSUN.
Scouting Boise State
• Boise State Head Coach Gordy Presnell enters the season with 705 wins, 34th all-time in NCAA history and 18th among active coaches.
• The Broncos return six letterwinners from 2020-21 and have added nine newcomers.
• Sophomore Mary Kay Naro was second in the Mountain West last season with 5.2 assists per game.
• Sophomore Abby Muse was second in the conference a year ago in blocked shots (40) and blocks per game (1.7) and was named to the Mountain West All-Freshman Team.
• Boise State's roster consists of student-athletes from seven states (Washington-4, California-2, Idaho-2, Oregon-2, Arizona-1, Georgia-1, Texas-1) and two foreign countries (France-1, New Zealand-1).
• The Broncos averaged 42.9 rebounds per game last season.
• Boise State was the conference leader in blocked shots (149) and blocks per game (6.48).
• The Broncos are opening at home for the ninth-straight season.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Broncos
Long Beach State and Boise State will meet for the 10th time in program history. In the all-time series, which dates back to 1997, the Beach holds the edge, 5-4, and have won the last two meetings. The Beach and the Broncos last faced off in 2014 and Long Beach State came away with a 68-50 win. Boise State, meanwhile, is looking for its first win over Long Beach State since 2001 when they defeated LBSU, 71-66.
Defensively Strong
With Long Beach State returning most of its team from last season, including Justina King and Ma'Qhi Berry who were named to the 2020-21 Big West All-Defensive Team, the Beach's defense looks to continue to be strong. The well-established Beach defense has led the Big West in steals multiple times over the last several seasons, including last year in which the Beach led the league with 11.43 steals per set. In the 2021-22 season opener, Long Beach State collected 15 steals against Biola.

Junior guard Justina King has accumulated 988 points in her career and is just 12 points away from becoming the 26th player in Long Beach State program history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. She kicked off the 2021-22 campaign with a nine-point showing against Biola.
Mad(di) Skills
Senior forward Maddi Utti showed off her skills on Tuesday against Biola in the Long Beach State season opener as she led the team with 12 points, 10 rebounds, five assists, three steals, and one block. The transfer from Fresno State brings a wealth of experience on the hardwood and was the 2020 Mountain West Player of the Year.
Hardy Makes it Look Easy
Junior Jasmine Hardy got the 2021-22 season off to a solid start as she earned the start at guard and went on to tie for the team lead with a 12-poiint performance. Hardy also added five boards and three steals in a versatile showing for the Beach.
Berry Good
Ma'Qhi Berry has been a key component for the Beach as she has consistently contributed on both sides of the ball in her Long Beach State career. In the 2021-22 season opener, Berry tallied nine points and three rebounds to go along with one assist, one steal, and one block.
Ki Component
Kianna Hamilton-Fisher came off the bench for the Beach and recorded double-digits with 10 points, while also contributing three steals, to rebounds, a pair of assists, and one block. She has been an integral part of the Long Beach State lineup in season's past and looks to continue her key role this season.
