The Long Beach State women's volleyball team continues Big West Conference action this weekend as the Beach take on UC Santa Barbara on Friday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. in Santa Barbara, Calif., before taking on CSUN on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 7 p.m.

About the Beach
• Long Beach State went 1-1 last week to bring its season record to 7-8, while the Beach are 1-3 in Big West Conference action.
• Last week, the Beach earned a sweep over Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday, before falling in three sets at Hawaii.
• Kashauna Williams recorded 32 kills last week to bring her career total to 986. She is just 14 kills away from becoming the 17th player in program history to reach the 1,000 kill milestone.
• Williams is averaging 4.59 kills per set to led the Big West and ranks 13th in the nation. She also averages 1.25 digs per set, 0.48 blocks per set, and is hitting .245 on the year.
• Freshman outside hitter Erykah Lovett had an outstanding week as she racked up 25 kills last week to average 4.17 kills per set. She now is averaging 3.00 kills per set to go along with 2.57 digs per set. Her kills per set average ranks her ninth in the conference, and she is second in the league with 0.43 aces per set.
• Sophomore Katie Kennedy has earned the start on the right side for the last six matches and has done a solid job. On the year, she is averaging 2.10 kills per set, while adding 0.75 digs per set, and 0.43 blocks per set.
• Senior Miranda Canez continues to lead the Beach in hitting with a .339 attack percentage which is good for sixth in the Big West. Additionally, she is second on the squad with 0.63 blocks per set, while also contributing 1.41 kills per set.
• Sophomore Tia Chavira has earned the start at setter in the nine matches and is currently averaging 9.03 assists per set on the year which puts her sixth in the Big West. Additionally, she has averaged 0.87 kills per set, 0.36 blocks per set, and 0.23 aces per set, while hitting .264.
• Sophomore libero Nicole Hoff has been stout in the back row for the Beach having racked up a total of 215 digs for an average of 3.84 digs per set to rank eighth in the Big West Conference. She also has led the Beach in digs 10 times and has registered double-digit digs in 14 contests.
• At the net freshman middle blocker Kameron Bacon has collected 48 total blocks (6 solo, 42 assists) to lead the team with 0.94 blocks per set to rank in the top 10 in the Big West. She also contributes 0.98 kills per set on the offensive end.
• Off the bench, Dylan Dela Cruz and Jenna Giambi have been productive for the Beach in the back row contributing 2.00 digs per set and 1.60 digs per set, respectively.
Scouting UC Santa Barbara
• UC Santa Barbara comes into the match against Long Beach State with an 8-8 overall record and a perfect 4-0 mark in Big West Conference action.
• The Gauchos have won five of their last six and are on a four-match winning streak having earned victories over UC San Diego (3-1), UC Irvine (3-0), Cal Poly (3-0), and CSU Bakersfield (3-1).
• As a team, UCSB is hitting .248 on the year while averaging 13.94 kills per set on 13.11 assists per set. The Gauchos' .248 attack percentage is second in the league, while they lead the conference in kills per set and assists per set.
• Offensively, Tallulah Froley leads the team with 2.94 kills per set, while Michelle Ohwobete (2.75 kps), Abrielle Bross (2.35 kps), and Tasia Farmer (2.04 kps) all average over 2.00 kills per set.
• The Gauchos split setter duties between Grace Kloss, Grace McIntosh, and Mehana Ma'a as they average 6.09, 5.10, 5.04 assists per set, respectively.
• At libero, Peed Macall, the reigning Big West Defensive Player of the Week, leads the team and conference with 4.45 digs per set.
• Rowan Ennis, who was named Big West Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, is the team leader with 1.22 blocks per set, which ranks her fourth in the Big West. Ennis also adds 1.79 kills per set on a .386 attack percentage.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Gauchos
Long Beach State and UC Santa Barbara will face off for the 112th time in program history. The Beach leads the all-time series 72-39 and LBSU earned a 3-0 sweep in the last meeting on Nov. 15, 2019 in Long Beach, Calif. When playing in Santa Barbara, Calif., Long Beach State holds a slight lead, 26-22, over UC Santa Barbara.
Scouting CSUN
• CSUN is currently 2-12 overall and 1-3 in the Big West.
• The Matadors' lone win in conference action came at CSU Bakersfield as CSUN picked up a 3-0 sweep.
• CSUN has lost 11 of their last 12 matches as they are looking to get back on the winning track.
• Taylor Orshoff and Nicole Nevarez lead the Matadors' offense with 2.40 and 2.30 kills per set.
• At setter, Carisa Barron and Madison Klungel share duties with 4.52 and 3.98 assists per set, respectively.
• Makayla Bradford's 3.72 digs per set anchor the back row, while Taylor Hunter leads the way at the net with 1.00 blocks per set.
The Series: The Beach vs. The Matadors
Long Beach State and CSUN will meet for the 83rd time in program history and the Beach lead the all-time series 58-24. Long Beach State has won the last five meetings against the Matadors as CSUN is looking for their first win over LBSU since Sept. 23, 2017 when the Matadors defeated the Beach in four sets in Northridge, Calif.

Long Beach State junior outside hitter Kashauna Williams has accumulated 986 kills thus far during her collegiate career. Freshman outside hitter Erykah Lovett has been having a very solid rookie season. The Newnan, Ga., native is second on the squad with 3.00 kills per set, which ranks her ninth in the Big West Conference. Additionally, Lovett is second in the Big West in aces per set with 0.43 after serving up a total of 24 this season so far. Lovett contributes on both sides of the ball as she adds 2.57 digs per set and 0.21 blocks per set.
Can You Dig It?
Sophomore libero Nicole Hoff has been solid in the back row for the Beach racking up 215 digs to average 3.84 digs per set which ranks her eighth in the Big West. Hoff has led Long Beach State in digs in 10-of-15 matches and has recorded double-digit digs in 14 contests this season. Joining Hoff in solid defensive performances this are junior Dylan Dela Cruz (2.00 digs per set), sophomore Tia Chavira (2.90 digs per set), and freshman Jenna Giambi (1.60 digs per set).
Helping Hands
Long Beach State has platooned both freshman Kasia Partyka and sophomore Tia Chavira at setter this season. Partyka got the start in the first six matches and has averaged 8.73 assists per set, while Chavira has earned the next nine starts and has averaged 9.03 assists per set. Chavira's average is good for sixth in the Big West as she has helped LBSU to a .222 attack percentage this season.
Block Party
Freshman middle blocker Kameron Bacon continues to set the standard for the Beach at the net. The product out of Fontana, Calif., leads Long Beach State with 48 total blocks (6 solo, 42 block assists) to average 0.94 blocks per set. She recorded a career-high eight blocks against Cal State Fullerton last week. Coming in behind Bacon is senior middle blocker Miranda Canez who has recorded 35 total blocks (2 solo, 33 block assists) to average 0.63 blocks per set.
Kennedy Kills It
Sophomore outside hitter/opposite Katie Kennedy has been killing it as of late. The Hood River, Ore., native has earned the start at opposite in the last six matches and is now third on the squad with 2.10 kills per set. In addition, Kennedy also owns a 0.75 digs per set average to go along with 0.43 blocks per set.
Kashing In
Kashauna Williams has continued her hot hitting as the Los Angeles, Calif., native leads both the Beach and the Big West with 4.59 kills per set, a mark that ranks her 13th in the nation. She has racked up 257 kills in 56 sets and has reached double-figures in each match this season leading LBSU in kills in 14-of-15 contests thus far. Additionally, Williams has recorded five 20-plus kill performances including her most recent 20-kill showing against No. 21 San Diego to close out the preseason.
Double-Double Toil And Trouble
Long Beach State has had several solid performances this season including 13 double-doubles by five different players in 13 matches. Leading the way is freshman Erykah Lovett who has logged six double-doubles in her rookie season. Sophomore Tia Chavira has posted three double-doubles this season, while Kashauna Williams has recorded two. Lastly, Nicole Hoff and Kasia Partyka each have tallied one double-double so far.

Long Beach State has six players who rank in the top 10 in the Big West. Leading the way is junior outside hitter Kashauna Williams who leads the league in kills per set with 4.59. Williams also sets the standard in points per set with 4.95.
