No. 15 Long Beach State Takes On No. 10 UC San Diego To Open Big West Play

LONG BEACH, Calif. — After spending a month on the road, No. 15 Long Beach State will be back at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center on Saturday to open Big West play against No. 10 UC San Diego.
The Beach picked up wins against St. Francis. (Pa.), then No. 22 Bucknell University and Santa Clara at the Wolverine Invitational in Ann Arbor, Michigan last weekend.
Long Beach was led by junior Elena Kotanchyan, who scored 19 goals across four games to lead the team to a 3-1 record. Kotanchyan scored a career-best seven goals against St. Francis to open the tournament and matched the total against Santa Clara to wrap the tournament.
Along with Kotanchyan, Orsi Hertzka also scored seven goals against St. Francis in the 22-11 victory. The seven goals matched a single-game program record for the Beach.
For her efforts Kotanchyan was named the Big West Player of the Week, the first of her career and the first for LBSU this season.
UCSD, the Big West's newest team, heads to Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center after going 2-1 last week including picking up their first Big West win against Cal State Northridge.
Leading the way for the Tritons is Taylor Onstott, Ciara Franke and Grace Pevehouse who lead the team in scoring.
