Seven Women’s Water Polo Players Named All-Big West

LONG BEACH, Calif. – After another successful season, Women's Water Polo saw seven players honored for their achievements as All-Big West.
Chiara Amoroso, Lucy Miszewski and Elisa Portillo all landed All-Big West First Team honors for their fantastic seasons. Portillo becomes the second player in program history behind Tori Morrissey (2015-2019) to earn conference honors in all seasons played. Now the all-time leader in both goals (251) and assists (145), the senior attacker led the team with 74 goals, 54 assists, 40 steals and seven field blocks.
Amoroso ranked third on the team with 62 goals, earning her second Big West honor after being named to the All-Big West Freshman Team in the 2024 season. Miszewski was also another key player for the Beach in the season, being named to the Cutino Award Watch List and ranking second on the team with 67 goals and 36 assists in a terrific season.
Freshman phenom Polina Synytsia earned a spot on both the Second Team All-Big West and the All-Big West Freshman Team. Synytsia finished her first season for the Beach with 204 saves, 19 steals and nine assists.
Joining Synytsia on the Second Team All-Big West was sophomore Daniela Quinzada. The Spanish center scored 35 goals while leading the team in earned ejections with 37. This is the second honor for the center after earning Honorable Mention in the past season.
Closing the awards of the season, both senior Elyana Goren and sophomore Rita Gurri were named Honorable Mention by the league. This is the first award for Goren after stepping up in her final season and becoming a solid defensive player for the team. Goren finished her last season with 15 goals, 15 assists, 15 earned ejections and 14 steals. For Gurri, this is the second conference honor after being named to the All-Freshman Team. The Spanish defender added 37 goals and 22 assists in the year.
No. 8 Long Beach State (17-11) closed the year for the third season in a row by reaching the Big West Championship finals. It also marked the second straight season the Beach had seven players named All-Big West.
