No. 15 Long Beach State Wraps Up Wolverine Invitational With Wins

Long Beach defeats No. 22 Bucknell and Santa Clara to wrap up the Wolverine Invitational.
Elena Kotanchyan scored three goals and No. 15 Long Beach State defeated Santa Clara 13-7 to wrap up play at the Wolverine Invitational on Sunday.
The capped a two-win Sunday as the Beach defeated No. 22 Bucknell 17-14 Sunday morning.
In the contest against the Bison, junior Elena Kotanchyan tied her career high scoring seven goals while connecting on 7 of her 8 shot attempts.
Against Santa Clara, the Beach (11-6) fell behind 2-0 midway through the first quarter but, Katie Dill kickstart a 3-0 run when she scored on an assist from Gabrielle Matafora-Adams.
Matafora-Adams then scored on a powerplay and Kotanchyan gave the Beach a 3-2 lead after the first quarter.
Hailey Eberle tied the game for Santa Clara at the 7:10 mark in the second, but Camille Gallardo-Russell scored at the 6:07 mark to give LBSU a 4-3 lead.
Gallardo-Russell's goal started another 3-0 run for the Beach as Kotanchyan scored two more goals to give the Beach a 6-3 lead at halftime.
In the third, Dill scored her second goal on a powerplay after an assist from Jamie Oberman to give the Beach an 8-4 lead with 1:55 left in the third.
Anne de Kleer scored her first of three goals with 24 seconds left to give the Beach a 9-4 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
In the fourth, de Kleer scored back-to-back goals to give the Beach an 11-5 lead and Sarah Barker and Ariana Honka each found the back of the cage to give Long Beach the victory.
The Beach will be back in action next Saturday when they welcome UC San Diego to open Big West Conference play.
