LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State women's basketball team got out on the court for competition for the first time in two weeks and routed Bethesda, 90-43, in an exhibition contest to wrap up the non-conference portion of the schedule.
Every Beach player who saw action in the game scored as LBSU was led by senior forward Cydnee Kinslow's 22-point performance. Kinslow led a group of four players who reached double figures in Shanaijah Davison (15 points), Jada Smith (12 points), and Jasmine Hardy (10 points).
Kristyna Jeskeova collected 10 rebounds, while adding seven points, four steal, and three assists in a solid performance for the freshman from the Czech Republic. Smith, a freshman out of Cary, N.C., played for 17 minutes and added three rebounds and a block to go along with her 12-point effort.
As a team, Long Beach State shot 50.7 percent from the field and sank six three-pointers with four of them coming from Kinslow.
The Beach, which leads the Big West in steals, registered 19 steals against the Flames as they forced Bethesda into 23 turnovers. Jeskeova and Justina King each had four steals in the game, while Kinslow and Lauren Green added three each.
Lauren Green and redshirt sophomore Chloe Gaynor each posted two blocks, while Smith and Aaryon Green recorded a block of their own as the Beach defense limited the Flames to just 28.1 percent shooting from the field.
Long Beach State opened the game on 4-0 run and never looked back. The Beach surged ahead in the first quarter leading by double digits (15-4) as early as four minutes into the game (6:03). LBSU held a 25-4 advantage over Bethesda at the end of the first quarter.
The Beach continued their hot shooting into the second quarter as they shot 63.2 percent from the field connected on 12-of-19 field goals. Long Beach State pushed its lead to 37 (53-16) by halftime.
The third quarter was the best for Bethesda as they tallied 13 points to Long Beach State's 14. However, the Beach's commanding lead provided more than enough of a cushion for LBSU to remove its starters as they headed into the final quarter with a 67-29 advantage.
Long Beach State shot nearly 60-percent (57.9) in the fourth quarter and led by as many as 52 points (84-32) with 4:40 remaining in the game. With a lead of more than 50, the Beach closed out the game with a 90-43 exhibition win.
Bethesda was led by Tanika Stephenson's 17 points, while Megan Burt and Denshay Wallace each contributed 11 points. Wallace finished with a double-double as she added 14 rebounds for the Flames.
The Beach will kick off Big West Conference action on Thursday, Jan. 9 when they host Cal Poly at 7 p.m. inside the Walter Pyramid.
