Allen, Ornelas Lead Long Beach State At 39th Annual UCR Invitational

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Senior Alyssa Allen was the women's top finisher for the Beach for the second consecutive week while sophomore Raymon Ornelas was the top finisher on the men's side at the 39th Annual UCR Invitational.

Allen opened up the 6K in a strong way on Saturday, running to a lifetime-best of 21:35.22 to place 35th overall. Next to cross the line was fellow senior Julie Vargas who also recorded a PR of 21:54.24, finishing in 49th overall. Freshman Maggie Bauer followed closely in 56th with a time of 21:59.25.

Overall, the women's team finished in eighth place out of 19 teams, grabbing a total of 254 points.

The men's program placed 11th overall out of 24 teams at the UCR Invitational, recording a total of 350 points. Sophomore Raymon Ornelas came home in 46th with a time of 25:13.16. Junior Ricky Villa followed in 70th, running to a time of 25:44.34. Junior Ricardo Cardenas was the third finisher for the Beach in 93rd place.

Long Beach State will be back in action on Friday, October 19 at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational.
