The Beach finishes up last competition before the Big West Championships.

IRVINE, Calif.- Long Beach State had a busy second day at the Steve Scott Invitational with multiple athletes competing in  preparation for the Big West Championships.

The LBSU men started the day off strong with a third place finish in the 4x100m relay with a time of 40.44, their second fastest time of the season. The team consisted of Femi Ajose, Kent Harris, Chaio Winters, and Kemonie Briggs. In the men's 100m hurdles, Derreck Affor ran his second-best time of the season, placing sixth with a time of 14.53. Teammate Devon Alvarado followed closely behind in seventh, finishing in 14.64. John Kendrick competed exclusively in the 100 and 200 meters, tying his PR with a time of 10.91 and 22.42.

In the field, Sebastian Coleman was the top finisher for the Beach in the men's discus throw and was just off his personal-best with a throw of 173-03.00. Teammates Charlie Vernoy and Josh Carr followed in sixth and seventh with throws of 172-06.00 and 168-11.00. Tavi Kamarullah had a solid performance in the shot put, just off his PR with a throw of 57-02.25 to finish third in the event. Freshman Toa Otine tied his season best throw with a mark of 53-02.25 to place in sixth.

Junior Christian Mueller had an outstanding day in the pole vault, tying his personal-best with a clearance of 15-07.00 to garner a conference qualifying mark and place seventh in the event.

On the women's side, senior Bria Palmer garnered her fifth title of the season in the high jump with a clearance of 5-08.75. Palmer holds the No. 2 mark in the Big West Conference, No. 9 in the West Region, and No. 17 in the nation. Diana Acholonu tied her second-best mark of the season with a jump of 5-07.00. Malia Talavou was just off her PR in the shot put, finishing in seventh with a throw of 41-01.00.

On the track, freshman Anitha Graves placed 12th in the 800 meters and was just off her lifetime-best by .02 with a time of 2:15.04. Lexi Nardoni also had a lifetime-best performance in the women's 200 meters, running a time of 25.61.

Long Beach State's Decathletes and Heptathletes will take the stage next weekend, kicking off the Big West Championship in Santa Barbara with the multi-event competitions on Friday, May 3, and Saturday, May 4.
