The Beach earned the No. 3 seed and will face the Mustangs at 11:30 a.m. on Friday.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State will begin postseason play on Friday in Indian Wells, Calif. by facing Cal Poly at 11:30 a.m. in the Big West Tournament quarterfinals.

Long Beach State (14-5) is seeking its 13th Big West Tournament Championship, and will begin the journey on Thursday in the quarterfinals. Long Beach State was a 6-1 winner at home earlier this season against Cal Poly (7-11). The Mustangs took the doubles point by winning two very close matches, but lost all six singles matches in the earlier meeting this season.

If the seeds hold, an advancing Long Beach State would face Cal State Fullerton (14-5) in the semifinals. The two teams played a very tight match earlier this season, with the Titans prevailing 4-3 in a dual that had two matches go to three sets and two more decided by tiebreakers.

Freshman Wiktoria Rutkowska leads the Beach at the top of the lineup, having played every match this season at No. 1 in both singles and doubles. Rutkowska has posted a 9-7 record in singles duals while playing doubles with her partner Dominique Meyer. The pair kicked off 2019 by winning the doubles title at the Beach Tennis Invitational, and are now 14-7 overall on the year. Both have also been named Big West Player of the Week this season.

Another freshman holds down the second spot in the lineup for the Beach, as Emma Bardet has played there all season as well, going 9-7 in dual matches. At No. 3, Long Beach State's lone upperclassman, Natalia Munoz, has had an outstanding season. Munoz has piled up 24 wins this season, her third straight year with over 20 wins, and has been busy in dual match play, winning a team-high 13 matches, including three in a row entering the Big West Tournament.

In doubles, Munoz has also found great success with sophomore Lalita Devarakonda. Together, the duo are 6-1 in Big West play and have piled up a 13-3 record at No. 2 in dual matches together. Devarakonda has won 11 dual matches in singles as well, going 6-1 at No. 5 before making the move to No. 4 over the last six matches.

A third freshman in the lineup, Zara Lennon has played in three different slots in the singles lineup, but has settled in at No. 5 where she's posted a 4-2 record. Lennon has also been busy in doubles where she has primarily played with Bardet, going 7-5 with the French freshman.

Rounding out the lineup is sophomore Sadaf Sadeghvaziri, who has played her way into the No. 6 slot. Winning her last three matches, Sadegvaziri is now 5-2 on the year at No. 6, and has gone 6-2 in her last ten matches, playing a big part in the depth that has led to a lot of success for the Beach this season.
