Women’s Tennis Rolls To Quarterfinal Win Over Cal Poly

Junior Natalia Munoz led the Beach as LBSU won 4-0 over the Mustangs.
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – Junior Natalia Munoz picked up a pair of wins as Long Beach State breezed to a 4-0 win over sixth-seeded Cal Poly to open up the Big West Tournament in the quarterfinals.
Long Beach State (15-5) opened up the Big West Tournament with a convincing sweep of Cal Poly (7-12). Munoz, Long Beach State's lone upperclassman and sophomore Lalita Devarakonda dropped Susanne Boyden and Grace Olyphant 6-0 to improve to 14-3 on the season in dual match play in doubles, and Wiktoria Rutkowska and Dominique Meyer closed out a quick doubles session with a 6-2 win over Emily Louie-Meadors and Emily Ackerman.
Singles proceeded similarly in what would be a quick day for the Beach. Munoz cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 over MacKenzie Worsnop, and the rest of Long Beach State's depth shined as freshman Zara Lennon won 6-4, 6-0 over Olyphant and sophomore Sadaf Sadeghvaziri was a 6-2, 6-3 winner over Ackerman to close out the victory in just over two hours.
Long Beach State will advance to Saturday's semifinals, facing second-seeded Cal State Fullerton, who had a surprisingly tough time with seven-seed CSUN but advanced 4-3. That match is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m. in the Indian Wells Tennis Garden.
