The Beach finishes outdoor season opener with multiple event wins.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State track and field program wrapped up the start of their outdoor season this Saturday at the Beach Opener. The Beach had many solid performances despite the rain at the Jack Rose Track.
 
 In the field, senior and Long Beach Poly product Vincent Calhoun cleared a lifetime best mark of 7-03 in the men's high jump to hold the number one spot in the nation. Calhoun completed his indoor season with a clearance of 6-11.75, heading into the Beach Opener and has shown major improvements as he continues his outdoor season. This mark moves him up to the second spot on the all-time list for the Beach.
 
On the women's side, senior Bria Palmer was also the event winner in the women's high jump, clearing 5-09 and getting the opportunity to jump at her personal best mark to kick off her outdoor season. Allison Foster finished third in the triple jump with a mark of 36-08.25 and junior Amana Truong was the top finisher in the discus throw with a mark of 142-04 to place fourth.
 
On the track, the women's 4x100m relay team which consists of Courtne' Davis, Madison Golden, Skylin Harbin, and Azaria Hill, won the event with a time of 46.78. Golden also competed in the 100-meters and finished with the second fastest time, clocking a 12.40. Four LBSU athletes competed in the women's 200-meters. Skylin Harbin ran 25.20, finishing with the fastest time in the field. Following was teammate LeNaya Griffin with a time of 25.28 to place second. The women's 4x400m relay team of LeNaya Griffin, Skylin Harbin, Shalee Reynolds, and Madison Golden ran a time of 3:52.24 to win the race.
 
On the men's side, Devon Alvarado finished second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.45. In the 400-meters, team captain Kent Harris finished sixth overall, running a time of 50.65. Harris also competed in the 4x400m relay with teammates Koty Burton, John Broadhead, and Dakari Douglas, finishing in a time of 3:20.72. Chaio Winters had a solid performance in the 200-meters, clocking a time of 22.20 to win the event.
 
In the distances, Patrick Higgins took third in the men's 800-meters with a time of 1:56.57. Shalee Reynolds was also a top finisher in the women's 800-meters, running a time of 2:18.94 to place fourth.
 
Long Beach State returns to action at the USC Trojan Invitational next Friday and the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Arizona next Saturday.
