
Beach T&F Wrap up Day One of Competition at USC, ASU Meets

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - Long Beach State throwers started out the weekends competition at the Trojan Invitational on Friday, posting strong results at the meet hosted by USC.
In the field, junior Charlie Vernoy had an event win in the men's discus throw with a mark of 172-08 to open up his outdoor season. Senior Josh Carr followed in third place with a mark of 162-04 and Sebastian Coleman finished fourth at 160-10. In the men's hammer throw, Nicholas Hudson finished fourth and was just off his personal-best with a mark of 204-08, which holds him at eighth on the all-time list. Anthony Sommers placed eighth in the event with a huge PR of 179-09.
In the women's throws, senior De'Ondra young was the top finisher for the Beach, finishing second in the hammer with a mark of 193-00. Crystal Rodriguez and Erykah McNairy followed in fourth and fifth place with marks at 170-02 and 167-01. Truong was the top finisher for the Beach in the women's discus with a throw of 139.02 to finish fifth.
In Fridays action at the Baldy Castillo Invitational hosted by ASU, Long Beach State had multiple athletes compete in the men's and women's short hurdles. Indoor school record holder, Koty Burton finished sixth in the 110m hurdles, clocking a time of 14.39.
On the track for the women's, Skylin Harbin placed sixth in the 100m hurdles with a time of 14.19. Samaya Brandon was the next finisher for the Beach, clocking a time of 14.86 to open up her season.
Long Beach State will continue their weekend with a full Saturday at both the USC Trojan Invitational and Baldy Castillo Invitational hosted by ASU.
