
The Beach Post Strong Results at ASU, USC Meets

Event wins on the track and in the field.
Baldy Castillo Invitational results | Trojan Invitational results
TEMPE, Ariz. - Long Beach State faced a talented field of athletes this weekend at the Baldy Castillo Invitational, posting strong results at the meet hosted by Arizona State. LBSU also finished up competition at the Trojan Invitational, with a group of athletes competing in the distances and throws at USC.
Many great results from Saturday's action in the desert came on the track, where LBSU had a number of high finishers, as well as solid performances in the field.
On the men's side, Kent Harris had a strong day in the 100- and 200-meter dash. The junior finished seventh in the 200m, recording a time of 21.55 and was 10th in the 100m with a time of 10.87. Freshman Femi Ajose led the Beach in the men's 100-meter, running a time of 10.84 to place ninth. Sophomore Faris Babineaux recorded a couple personal-bests on the track with a time of 48.12 in the 400-meters to finish in third and 21.65 in the 200-meters. Teammate Chaio Winters followed in the 400m, finishing in fourth with a time of 48.69.
Koty Burton was the fourth-place finisher in the men's 400m hurdles, finishing in 53.65. Freshman Dakari Douglas also had a solid performance, placing sixth in the event with a time of 54.81.The 4x100m relay of Kent Harris, Femi Ajose, Chaio Winters, and Kemonie Briggs ran a solid race to take fourth, finishing just behind the NAU quartet.
In the field, national leader Vincent Calhoun won his second event of the season with a clearance of 7-02.25. The All-American Kemonie Briggs also had a great day in the field, winning the long jump with a mark of 25-03.25. He currently holds the leading mark in the Big West Conference.
For the women's team, there were many great performances, but Long Beach State's event win came from on the track. Junior Skylin Harbin won the women's 400mh hurdles with a time of 60.17, placing her at seventh on the all-time list.
It was a solid day on the track for senior Courtne' Davis, who finished second in the 100m with a time of 11.47, leading fellow 4x100m relay members who finished under 12 seconds. Azaria Hill was just off her PR, finishing in fifth with a time of 11.78 and Madison Golden ran 11.94 to improve on her time this season. Davis excelled in the 200m, opening up with a time of 23.49. The Beach had four athletes drop below 25 seconds, with Hill running (24.49)to finish sixth, Golden at (24.51), and Griffin at (24.91).
The women's sprinters had a strong showing in the 4x100m relay as the Beach took second place with a time of 45.40. That time run by, Davis, Golden, Harbin, and Hill, is currently the fastest in the Big West Conference. Junior LeNaya Griffin was third in the 400-meters, posting a solid time of 55.81. Followed in fourth place was the sophomore Shalee Reynolds at 56.23.
In Saturday's action at the Trojan Invitational, Long Beach State had some distance runners record personal bests. Freshman Ryley Fick posted personal best-times in both the 800 and 1500m, clocking a 2:23.74 and 4:48.33. Junior Alyssa Allen also posted personal best-times finishing in 2:22.16 and 4:50.88. Julie Vargas recorded a PR in the 1500m with a time of 4:49.30.
More on the track, Braedon Kraft finished second in the 800-meters, running a time of 1:53.47. Patrick Higgins followed in fifth, clocking a 1:56.43. In the sprints, Derreck Affor led the Beach in the 110m hurdles, finishing with a time of 14.60.
In the field, Ryan Coy placed second in the men's javelin, opening up his season with a mark of 159-05. Tavi Kammarullah had a solid day in the shot put, finishing fourth in the event with a throw of 55-08.50.
Long Beach State will return to action at the UCR Decathlon and Heptathlon in Riverside Mar. 21-22.
