LBSU Track and Field Compete at USC, ASU Meets This Weekend

Busy week for the Beach as they split between two meets.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Big weekend ahead for Beach track and field as they split between the USC Trojan Invitational, as well as the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Arizona on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Arizona State.
 
Action will begin for the Beach on Friday in the field at the Trojan Invitational. Competition starts at noon with the women's hammer throw, followed by the men's hammer, women's discuss and men's discuss. Senior De'Ondra Young will compete exclusively in the hammer, while Crystal Rodriguez, Erykah McNairy, Amanda Truong, and Samantha Perez will each compete in both women's events. Josh Carr, Nicholas Hudson, Sebastian Coleman and Ryan Coy will compete in both events on the men's side, with Charlie Vernoy, Toa Otine, and Tavi Kamarullah competing exclusively in the discus. Amanda Truong and Nicholas Hudson were top finishers in the discus, placing fifth and seventh in the event last season.
 
The Multi's will continue on Saturday at the Trojan Invitational with Dereck Affor, Devon Alvarado, John Broadhead, and Herman Day in the field and on the track.
 
Long Beach State will continue their weekend, with a large contingent of athletes set to compete at the Baldy Castillo Invitational in Tempe, Ariz. The Beach will open up on Friday evening with, Skylin Harbin, Melanee Williams, Erin Mcquire, and Samaya Brandon in the women's 100m hurdles, as well as Koty Burton and Dakari Douglas in the men's 110m hurdles.
 
On the track Saturday, the first race begins for the Beach at 2:53 p.m. with Azaria Hill, Skylin Harbin, Madison Golden, and Courtne' Davis in the women's 4x100m relay. LBSU will have multiple athletes in the men's and women's 400m, and five sprinters in the women's 100m.
 
More on the track, senior Courtne' Davis will have a busy day, also competing in the women's 100m, and 200m. Davis had a breakthrough performance at this meet in the 2018 season, finishing second in the 200-meters with a personal record of 23.31 to place her at number two on the all-time list. The Beach will have six athletes competing in the women's 200m, and five in the men's.
 
 In the field, the men's and women's long jump will be busy with eight Long Beach State athletes competing in the event. LBSU will have three competitors in the men's high jump, including Vincent Calhoun and Jason Smith.  
 
There will be a collection of schools from across the country competing at the Baldy Castillo Invitational, including Eastern Michigan, Louisville, Minnesota, Texas A&M, UNLV, and others. In Friday's action in the Trojan Invitational, the Beach will go up against athletes from Washington, Washington State, BYU, Cal State Fullerton, and USC.
