
Long Beach State Surpasses Wagner With Strong Second Half, Extends Win Streak To Seven

LBSU pulled away in the second half to beat Wagner College, 13-7.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 15 Long Beach State (13-10) extended their win streak to seven on Sunday afternoon as they pummeled No. 16 Wagner (17-7), 13-7. LBSU found themselves in a close one early on in the game, but used a second half outbreak to take down the Seahawks. Freshman Sarah Barker led the Beach with five goals, while freshman Orsi Hertzka added three goals.
Barker opened the scoring for the Beach to give them a 1-0 lead. Barker would see the back of the net later in the quarter to give the Beach a 2-1 lead. Hertzka would score right before the buzzer to make it 3-2 at the break.
The second quarter would be a defensive battle as the Beach would only score one goal to the Seahawks two goals. Barker would tally a hat trick to keep the Beach tied at the half, 4-4.
Barker would score her fourth goal in the third quarter followed by senior Annabel Harman scoring to make it 6-4 in the opening minutes of the third quarter. The Beach would pile on in the third quarter as they would outscore Wagner, 6-0 in the third. Junior Marilia Mimidi, Hertzka, senior Tori Morrissey, and Barker would also score to pull the Beach away 10-4.
LBSU and Wagner would exchange goals in the fourth quarter with Harman, Hertzka, and Mimidi all scoring to finish the game off at 13-7.
Barker's five goals this season makes it the second time this season a member of the Beach has score five goals, with the last one being freshman Camille Gallardo-Russell against Fresno Pacific. Barker now has 31 goals on the season. Hertzka now has 54 goals on the season with her four goal effort. Mimidi now has 32 goals on the season while Harman has 26 goals. Senior Tori Morrissey helped with a goal for the Beach, but was more effective as she distributed the ball for four goals on the afternoon.
LBSU will be back in the pool Thursday at 7 p.m. against No. 14 Princeton.
