LBSU had a saturday afternoon scuffle with CSUN to open the Big West with a win, 10-8.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – No. 15 Long Beach State (12-10) opened the Big West conference on the road against CSUN (13-13) and looked to extend their win streak to six after taking down Bucknell in their home opener earlier in the week. LBSU opened the game up by taking the lead and never giving it up. The Beach took down the Matadors, 10-8. Sophomore Olivia Grim led the way for the Beach with a hat trick.

LBSU broke the game open with a 3-0 lead in the first quarter to put the Matadors in an early hole. Senior Tori Morrissey struck first for the Beach to give them a 1-0 lead, followed by freshman Sarah Barker and junior Eirini Patras.

The Beach would score twice more in the second quarter with two goals from Grim, but CSUN would score three times to make it 5-3 at the half.

Long Beach state extended their lead in the third quarter to four goals to make it 8-4. Morrissey would score again, followed by two goals from freshman Orsi Hertzka.

The Matadors would make things interesting towards the end of that match as they would close in on the lead, but LBSU would close things out 10-8. Grim and senior Annabel Harman would score in the fourth to solidify the victory for the Beach.

Hertzka now has 51 goals on the season and is closing in on the 10th slot of most goals score in a single season in LBSU history. Hertzka is six goals away from tying it. Barker now jumps up to 26 goals on the season, followed by 24 goals from Grim and Harman. With the two goals, Morrissey climbs up to 23 goals on the season.

The Beach will be back in action tomorrow, against Wagner College at 12 p.m. at the Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.
