Four Men’s Water Polo Players Named All-Golden Coast Conference

Rafael Real Vergara, Austin Stewart, Garrett Zaan and Marwan Darwish Selected for GCC postseason honors.
LONG BEACH, Calif.—The Golden Coast Conference has announced the 2019 Postseason Honors which includes four Long Beach State Student-Athletes. Rafael Real Vergara, Austin Stewart, Garrett Zaan and Marwan Darwish were all selected and represent Long Beach State's great season.
Freshman Rafael Real Vergara was selected as first team All-GCC and All-Freshman Team honoree. Vergara made an immediate impact in his first season with the Beach scoring 43 goals in only 16 games. Vergara becomes the first LBSU student-athlete selected to the first team since Duncan Lynde in 2017.
Senior Austin Stewart and Sophomore Garrett Zaan were second team All-GCC selections. Stewart's selection marks the third time he has received all-conference honors, as the senior was previously selected as a second-team All-GCC selection in 2017 and 2018 and was selected onto the 2018 All-Tournament Team after being an integral part in Long Beach States' 2018 Golden Coast Conference Tournament championship. Stewart ranks third all-time for the Beach in career goals scored with 198 total goals.
Garrett Zaan collects his third award after being awarded onto the Second Team All-GCC team and All-Freshman Team in 2018. Zaan continues to impress in his sophomore campaign with 37 goals and a .544 shot percentage.
Junior Goalie Marwan Darwish was selected onto the Honorable Mention All-GCC team after accumulating 193 saves. Darwish was selected onto the All-Freshman Team in 2017 and was awarded GCC Conference Tournament MVP in 2018 after leading the Beach to the 2018 Golden Coast Conference Tournament Championship and an NCAA tournament appearance.
