Long Beach State Gears Up For the 2019 Big West Championship

Long Beach State teams set for the biggest race of the year.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State's men's and women's cross country program prepare to compete in the 2019 Big West Conference Championships this Saturday at the UCR AGS/ OPS Course in Riverside, Calif.

The women's 6K will kick off the day at 8:45 a.m. with the men's 8K following at 9:30 a.m. Live results for the conference will be available via Finished Results.
Long Beach State's men have been led twice by Michael Simpson and once by Raymon Ornelas throughout their three meets this season. Simpson's 24:35.60 in the 8K at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational was a collegiate personal best. Ornelas also showed improvement throughout the season with a PR of 24:39.00.
On the women's side, senior Alyssa Allen has made huge strides her senior year by being the top finisher for the Beach in all four meets this season. Allen recorded the fifth fastest time in school history at the Santa Clara Bronco Invitational. The senior crossed the line in the 6K with a time of 21:02.20 to place 26th. At the Mark Covert Classic, the senior was just off of her PR in the 5K, running to a time of 18:49.40. She will be joined by one other senior Julie Vargas at the conference championship.
Following the conclusion of the Big West Championship, Long Beach State is scheduled to compete in the NCAA Western Regional, held this year in Colfax, Wash. on November 15.
