BEFORE KICKOFF
• Long Beach State dropped its Big West home opener last Thursday against Cal State Fullerton, 2-1, as the Beach couldn't hang onto a halftime lead agianst the first-place Titans.
• Sophomore defender/forward Elysia Laramie put the Beach on top right at the half-hour mark with a terrific opening goal. A long free kick from Kaitlin Fregulia was headed down to Laramie by Sierra Castles. After collecting the ball above the top of the penalty area, Laramie created space against her defender and smashed the ball into the back of the net with her left foot.
• Cal State Fullerton got goals from each of their two leading scorers to pull off a second-half comeback, 2-1. The last Big West team other than Fullerton to beat Long Beach State at George Allen Field was UC Riverside on Oct. 16, 2015.
• LBSU outshot the Titans 11-8 in the match, including an 8-4 edge after halftime. Ayana Robles led the Beach with three shots, which also tied for the game high. Marta Alemany Sanchez played all 90 minutes in goal and collected four saves.
BRACE FOR ACE
• Elysia Laramie's two goals against Cal Poly gave her the team lead in goals and points this season. It was the first multi-goal game of her career and the first for LBSU since Dana Fujikuni scored a pair on Sept. 7 of last year, part of a 6-0 win over St. John's.
• The two goals continued Laramie's dominance of Cal Poly in her brief career. In two meetings against the Mustangs, Laramie has three goals and two game-winners. Last season, her goal in double overtime gave LBSU a 1-0 victory over Cal Poly at George Allen Field. She now has three career goals against the Mustangs and two against all other opponents.
• Laramie also collected seven shots in the Cal Poly victory (with four of them on goal) to set a new career high.
• With her goal against Cal State Fullerton, Laramie increased her team lead in scoring and has scored all three of LBSU's goals in Big West play.
SCOUTING THE AGGIES
• UC Davis enters Friday's contest on a six-match losing streak, going 0-4 in Big West action. Interestingly however, many of UCD's losses have been in close games this season. The Aggies are 1-7 in one-goal games this year, and seven of their last eight games have been decided by just one goal. UC Davis is 3-5 in road games this season, winning at Pacific, Portland State and Nevada.
• Casey Palmer and Leslie Fregoso each have three goals to lead the Aggies this season, and UC Davis has six players with two or more goals scored so far. Ana Williams and Janessa Staab each have a team-high two assists to go with their two goals apiece.
SERIES RECORD vs. UC DAVIS
• Long Beach State leads the all-time series with the Aggies 11-3-2. The Beach are unbeaten against UC Davis over the last nine meetings dating back to 2011. Long Beach State's only home loss against UC Davis was a 4-1 defeat back in 1984. Last season, the Beach went 1-0-1 against the Aggies, with a 3-3 draw in Davis during the regular season before a 1-0 victory in the Big West Tournament semifinals.
PARIS TRIP
• Prior to the season, the Long Beach State women's soccer team went on a foreign tour to France for the 2019 Women's World Cup. The Beach played a pair of exhibition matches against the Argentina National Team during an 11-day trip to Paris and surrounding cities. LBSU then witnessed the Argentines earn their first Women's World Cup point during a 0-0 draw with Japan at the Parc de Princes. The Beach capped off the trip in Reims, France where the team witnessed Team USA's historic 13-0 victory over Thailand in their World Cup opener.
