Laramie Scores Again But Beach Fall to UC Davis, 2-1

Elysia Laramie scored her fourth goal in as many Big West matches to tie things up for the Beach, but UC Davis was able to score the winning goal in the 67th minute to snag the road victory, 2-1. LBSU outshot the Aggies 14-2 in the second half and had an 18-6 edge on the night.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State (3-10, 1-3 Big West) suffered a tough loss on Friday night, falling 2-1 against UC Davis (6-9, 1-4 Big West) at George Allen Field. Sophomore Elysia Laramie continued her solid play, scoring her fifth goal of the season and fourth in conference play.

Laramie matched her career high with a game-leading seven shots on the night, with three of them on frame. Sierra Castles had four shots and an assist for the Beach in support of her classmate up top.

UC Davis took the lead in the 31^st minute as a cross into the box was smacked away from goal by Marta Alemany Sanchez. Unfortunately for the Beach, the ball landed right at the feet of Davis' Janae Gonzalez for the tap in.

LBSU dominated play in the second half and found an early equalizer on a great give-and-go between Castles and Laramie. Kaylee Ramirez started the play with a long free kick ahead, which was flicked on by Laramie. Castles controlled the ball nicely and flipped the ball through two defenders to an attacking Laramie who delivered a first-time finish with her right foot. Laramie has now scored in three of LBSU's four Big West matches and has scored four straight goals for the Beach. She leads the team with five goals and 10 points on the season.

UC Davis found its equalizer from a corner in the 67^th minute as Bryanna Duckett got her head to the ball. Alemany Sanchez got her fingertips to the ball, deflecting it off the inside of the post, but the ball found its way to the back of the net for a game-winning goal.

The Beach nearly tied things up in the closing minutes as Ayana Robles drilled a shot off the bottom of the crossbar and back out. Laramie then followed that up with a header that sailed just high to leave the Beach agonizingly close to overtime.

Long Beach will look to bounce back in its next game, hosting UC Riverside next Thursday at 7 p.m.
