Long Beach State Drops UC Riverside, 2-0

10/24/2019 10:59:00 PM | Women's Soccer

The Beach scored a pair of first-half goals less than two minutes apart to earn a 2-0 victory over visiting UC Riverside on Thursday night. Nadiyah Siqueiros and Sierra Castles were the goal scorers for the Beach while Angela Morales picked up a pair of assists on the night.

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- A pair of first-half goals was all the Beach would need on Thursday night as Long Beach State (4-10-0, 2-3 Big West) topped UC Riverside (3-12-1, 1-5 Big West) at George Allen Field. The goals came less than two minutes apart in the 21st and 23rd minute for the Beach, and LBSU saw the game out in the second half, outshooting the Highlanders 13-7 on the night.

Nadiyah Siqueiros opened the scoring as she made a darting run to the front of goal and finished off a terrific cross from Kaylee Ramirez. It was the first goal of the season for Siqueiros, who had a game-high three shots on the night. It was also the first LBSU goal scored in Big West play this season by someone other than Elysia Laramie.
The lead was quickly doubled on a terrific left-footed strike from Sierra Castles, who shot the ball from over 20 yards out, sending it to the top corner on the opposite side of goal to make it 2-0 Long Beach. Angela Morales dropped the ball over to her to pick up the assist, after also earning an assist on the previous goal as she played the ball to Ramirez for the one-time cross.
Even while picking up the first two assists of her career, Morales made her most memorable contribution later in the first half, stealing in the ball from a Highlander on the sidelines before using a spin move and a nutmeg to get past her. Morales also added a pair of shots in the match.
In goal, Ashley Seymour picked up the second shutout of her career, making four saves on the night.

Long Beach State will be back in action on Sunday at 6 p.m., hitting the road for a Black & Blue Rivalry match at UC Irvine.
