Women’s Water Polo Set To Open The 2019 Campaign Over The Weekend At Cal Cup

LBSU will take No. 2 Stanford and No. 17 Fresno State on Saturday, followed by No. 14 San Jose State and No. 4 Cal on Sunday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Women's water polo will be traveling up north to compete in the Cal Cup, hosted by Cal. LBSU is scheduled for four match-ups, with a pair of games both on Saturday and Sunday. Long Beach State will open the season ranked No. 11 in the country by the Collegiate Water Polo Association.
The season opener is set for Saturday at 9:45 a.m. as No. 11 Long Beach State will battle No. 2 Stanford. Afterwards, LBSU will take on No. 17 Fresno State at 3:30 p.m.
On Sunday, the Beach will face off against No. 14 San Jose State at 11:00 a.m. followed by their final match-up against the host, No. 4 Cal at 3:30 p.m.
Despite losing their top two goal scorers from last year in Alexandra Massier and Virginia Smith, the Beach will have plenty of returning help. Senior Tori Morissey, who was third on the team last year in goals and earned an All-Big West First Team selection is set to lead to the Beach. Not to mention, All-Big West Second Team junior Eirini Patras will be returning to the cage as well. Senior Annabel Harman, who had 19 goals and 14 steals last season will also be aiding the Beach in 2019.
Head coach Gavin Arroyo is entering his tenth season with the Beach and will look to improve from last year's 2018 women's water polo season. Arroyo helped the LBSU men's water polo team achieve their first NCAA tournament appearance in 21 years and will look to accomplish similar merits as the LBSU women's water polo coach this season.
