
Long Beach State Drops Both Saturday Matches

LBSU fell 25-4 against No. 2 Stanford in the first game, followed by a loss to No. 17 Fresno State, 11-9.
BERKELEY, Calif. – No. 11 LBSU opened up the 2019 campaign on Saturday with an early match-up against No. 2 Stanford in hopes of upsetting the Cardinal. Stanford opened the first quarter hot as they took an early lead, 7-2. Junior Paige Bennett and senior Annabel Harman found the back of the net in the first quarter for the Beach. The Beach would be held scoreless until the fourth quarter, where senior Tori Morrissey and freshman Orsi Hertzka would strike for their first goals of the second. LBSU would fall 25-4 in the end of the first game.
No. 11 LBSU looked to bounce back after their first loss against No. 17 Fresno State. LBSU would find themselves down early at the end of one with a score of 3-0, but the Beach would come out hot in the second quarter where they would bring the deficit to one at halftime, 4-3. The Beach would battle in the second half, but would be defeated by Fresno State, 11-9.
Morrissey would add on two goals in the match against Fresno to have followed by a pair of goals from Hertzka. Sophomore Olivia Grim would tally her first goal of the season for the Beach, along with pairs of goals from Harman and freshman Sarah Barker.
The Beach will be back tomorrow, Sunday, January 27 as they take on No. 14 San Jose State at 11:00 a.m., followed by No. 4 Cal at 3:30 p.m.
