Freshman Justina King scored a career-high 29 points in the loss.
BOZEMAN, Mont. – Freshman Justina King finished with a career-high 29 points to lead Long Beach State, but the Beach couldn't come back from a tough first quarter on the road at Montana State in an 85-62 loss.
Montana State (4-2) shot over 50 percent in the first quarter while Long Beach State (1-6) came out cold in an opening period that set the stage for the rest of the day. King scored to answer an opening three from Oliana Squires, but the Beach would mage just one other field goal in the quarter, including shooting 0-for-7 from three, falling into a 25-5 hole after ten minutes.
Long Beach State would outscore the Bobcats in two of the remaining three quarters, but the damage was done as Montana State dominated on the glass, out-rebounding LBSU 52-22 with the Beach fighting foul trouble throughout the night. Naomi Hunt was affected the most in that regard, fouling out and limited to seven points in just 25 minutes.
The Beach got a lift from King, who became the third different player for LBSU to score over 20 points, shooting 8-for-14 from the floor and 11-of-13 on free throws in the evening. Kianna Hamilton-Fisher finished with nine points and added to her team lead with four steals on the evening.
