No. 3 Oregon Too Much For Long Beach State In Eugene

12/2/2018 4:22:00 PM | Women's Basketball

Sophomore Shanaijah Davison scored 25 points for the Beach in the loss.

EUGENE, Ore. – Long Beach State stayed within striking distance of No. 3 Oregon through the first ten minutes, but the Ducks proved the stronger team Sunday in a 110-48 loss for the Beach. Sophomore Shanaijah Davison scored 25 points for LBSU in the loss.

Oregon (7-0) scored the first five points of the night, but Long Beach State (1-7) battled back in the early going, as a three-point play for Naomi Hunt cut the edge to 11-7 with 5:36 to go in the first half.

The Beach would trail by eight at the end of the first quarter by a margin of 24-16 behind seven first quarter points from Davison in an encouraging first half performance. Long Beach State went cold in the second quarter however, going 2-for-12 from the field and 0-for-6 from three as the Ducks pulled away.

Davison's 25 points marked the third time in four games the sophomore reached the 20-point mark, while freshman Jasmine Hardy had a career-high eight rebounds to lead the Beach in that category.

The Ducks shot 60.9 percent on the game however, making 13 3-pointers while being guided by guard Sabrina Ionescu, one of the best players in the nation. Ionescu finished with 12 points, 17 assists and six rebounds with just two turnovers while guiding the Oregon offense.

Long Beach State returns home for two games in the upcoming week. First, the Beach hosts San Diego at 7 p.m. on Thursday night before tipping off against Arizona at 1 p.m. on Sunday, December 9.
