The Beach Visit UC Santa Barbara In Golden Coast Conference Showdown

No. 8 Long Beach State prepares for the No. 6 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos in hopes of nabbing first conference win.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Beach (7-10, 0-1) will face the Gauchos (16-8, 1-1) on Friday, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. in Santa Barbara. No. 8 Long Beach State will be look to snap a four game losing streak against the No. 6 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos as they play visitor. With a win, LBSU would break even in the Golden Coast Conference and grab their first conference win of the season.
LBSU is entering this game having lost their last four games, including one against Santa Barbara. The Beach had also lost twice to No. 1 USC and once against No. 5 Pacific. UCSB enters the matchup having lost two straight against No. 4 Cal and No. 5 Pacific. The Beach and the Gauchos have met twice this season on neutral sites, with UCSB coming out victorious by a close margin in both. Their first battle came in San Diego at the Triton Invitational where the Beach fell, 11-10. The second contest came two weeks ago at Stanford in the MPSF invite with LBSU falling, 11-9.
Coming into the matchup, the Beach are led by junior Austin Stewart who has 34 goals in the season, followed by a triplet of 18-goal scorers in senior Keegan Wicken, junior Johnathan Wong, and senior Chandler Kaltenbach. Freshman Garrett Zaan will look to continue his hot play having scored in six consecutive games. Something to take note of, Wicken scored four goals in the first matchup against UCSB while Stewart scored four goals in the second faceoff. Either members, or another Beach member, will look to repeat similar play and find holes in the Gauchos defense to help push LBSU over the top against UC Santa Barbara.
