Freshmen Lead Cross Country At Highlander Invitational

Tyler Spencer and Leslie Diaz were the top finishers for the men and women respectively in Riverside.
RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Long Beach State freshmen Tyler Spencer and Leslie Diaz were the top finishers for the Beach, posting 11th and 29th place finishes on Saturday morning at the Highlander Invitational at the UCR Agricultural Operations Course.
Spencer is off to a great start of his freshman season, recording a personal best in the men's 8K race with a time of 24:54.0, breaking his previous mark by 17 seconds. Next to cross the line was senior Trevor Stangle who took 13th place with a time of 25:02.4, just in front of freshman Raymon Ornelas in 14th place with a time of 25.02.7.
Overall, the LBSU men's cross country team placed third among 20 teams with 110 points, including finishing in front of a trio of Big West foes in the host Highlanders, CSUN and UC Irvine.
The women's program also finished in the top ten, taking eighth place out of 22 teams at the Highlander Invitational. The top scorer for the Beach was Leslie Diaz, as the freshman came home in 29th place in the 5K with a time of 18:01, a new PR. Junior Alyssa Allen followed in 40th place with a time of 18:12, also a new personal best time. Fellow freshman Sofia Ramos was the third finisher for the Beach in 44th place.
Long Beach State is back in action on October 19th at the Titan Invitational, hosted by Cal State Fullerton.
