Beach Tennis Drops Heartbreaker At DePaul

EVANSTON, Ill. -- The 33rd-ranked Long Beach State women's tennis team suffered a narrow 4-3 loss to No. 38 DePaul in its first of a three-match road swing. Four of the six singles matches went into a third in the back and forth match.
The Beach (11-4) turned an early deficit into a one-point advantage with a trio of singles wins early on. After dropping the doubles point to the Blue Demons (12-3), Maeva Razakasoa tied up the match with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the No. 1 match. Ana Vladutu regained the DePaul lead with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-0 win in the No. 3 match.
The Beach strung together a pair of wins in the No. 5 and No. 6 matches to go up 3-2 in the match. Karolina Rozenberg rebounded from a tough first set loss with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win and Laura Eales dominated the final two sets of the No. 6 match with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-1 win.
The No. 2 match was the fourth match to go into a third set as Ebba Unden took the second set to force the decisive set. However, Patricia Fargas snuck away with the 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 win to tie up the match again. The No. 4 match went to DePaul's Jasmin Kling by a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) to seal the win for the Blue Demons.
Rozenberg and Eales began the match with an 8-3 win at No. 2 doubles but DePaul captured the Nos. 1 and 3 matches to earn the point.
Long Beach State faces UIC tomorrow morning to continue its nonconference road trip.
