Long Beach State Blanks Saint Mary’s 4-0

The Beach secured the doubles point and cruised through singles at Rhodes Tennis Center to improve to 9-7 on the season.
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State continued its dominant play at Rhodes Tennis Center on Thursday afternoon, defeating Saint Mary's 4-0 while remaining undefeated at home in doubles play this season.
The Beach set the tone early by claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. Cecilia Costa and Paulina Franco secured a 6-4 victory over Sofia Daryaie and Tiana Fox at the top position, while Pamela Badillo and Thea Jagare delivered a commanding 6-1 win against Elif Tuana Gunal and Madison Weekley on court two. Saint Mary's picked up a 6-4 result on court three, but Long Beach State had already locked up the opening point.
In singles play, the Beach quickly pulled away to clinch the match. Cecilia Costa earned the first singles victory of the afternoon after Tiana Fox retired with Costa leading 5-0 on court two. Pamela Badillo followed with a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over Sydney Wilson at the No. 5 position, giving Long Beach State a 3-0 advantage.
The deciding point came on court three where Thea Jagare controlled her match throughout, defeating Elif Tuana Gunal 6-2, 6-3 to seal the 4-0 victory for the Beach.
Three additional singles matches were left unfinished once the team result was secured. Diana De Simone led her match against Sofia Daryaie 6-4, 2-2 on court one, Paulina Franco held a 6-2, 4-1 advantage over Madison Weekley on court four, and Daisy Carpenter split the opening stages of her match with Sophie Stanton, leading 6-4 before trailing 0-3 in the second set.
With the win, Long Beach State improves to 9-7 overall while continuing its perfect run in doubles competition at home this season. The Beach will look to carry that momentum into tomorrow, when they face No. 28 Wichita State. Doubles play will begin at noon.
