Wichita State Defeats Long Beach State 6-1 At Rhodes Tennis Center

Shockers sweep doubles point and win five singles matches as the Beach earns lone point from Paulina Franco in three-set battle
LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Long Beach State fell to No. 28 Wichita State 6-1 on Saturday afternoon at Rhodes Tennis Center as the Shockers swept the doubles point and won five of six singles matches.
Wichita State established control early by claiming all three doubles matches to secure the opening point. The No. 12 ranked duo of Giorgia Roselli and Xin Tong Wang defeated Cecilia Costa and Paulina Franco 6-3 at the top position. The Shockers followed with a 6-4 win on court two where Kristina Kudryavtseva and Theodora Chantava topped Pamela Badillo and Thea Jagare. Wichita State completed the sweep on court three as Anne Knuettel and Vichitraporn Vimuktananda defeated Daisy Carpenter and Diana De Simone 6-1.
In singles play, Wichita State extended the lead with wins on courts three and two. No. 106 Chantava defeated Jagare 6-4, 6-2, while Roselli earned a 6-2, 6-0 victory over Costa.
The Shockers clinched the match on court one where No. 124 Tong Wang defeated De Simone 6-4, 6-1.
Long Beach State picked up its lone point on court four thanks to a strong performance from Paulina Franco. Franco earned a hard-fought 6-4, 7-6 victory over Kudryavtseva, closing the second-set tiebreak 9-7.
Wichita State added two more singles wins to close the afternoon. Vimuktananda defeated Badillo 6-2, 6-2 on court five, and Tatyana Nikolenko secured a 6-3, 6-3 win over Carpenter on court six.
With the result, No. 62 Long Beach State moves to 9-7 on the season.
