Dirtbags bats remain cool in loss to UCLA

Long Beach, Calif. - First baseman Steve Tinoco continued his hot hitting, going 2-for-2, but the Dirtbags added only three more hits in a 10-1 loss to UCLA Tuesday Night.
UCLA's Garrett Claypool continued to haunt the Dirtbags, picking up his third win in two season against Long Beach State after pitching seven innings on one-run ball, striking out four and giving up five hits.
Long Beach State countered with freshman Eddie Magallon who made his collegiate debut on Tuesday. Nerves showed for the true freshman in the first inning, as two balks helped move a Bruin around the bases to give UCLA a 1-0 lead.
The Bruins added another run in the third inning, but Long Beach State answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth. Jordan Casas doubled to start off the inning, and scored after two productive groundouts from Devin Lohman and Joey Terdoslavich.
The Bruins added a third run with three straight hits in the fifth, but Magallon looked to get out of the jam with a high fly ball, but an error by TJ Mittelstaedt kept the inning alive, and put the Bruins ahead 5-1.
In the late innings, Long Beach State went hitless against a pair of Bruin relievers, while UCLA added more runs, with the most damage coming in the ninth with three runs to lead to the final tally.
Long Beach State will play their first true series of the season, travelling to Arizona for a three-game set beginning on Friday, February 26 in Tucson, Ariz.
