Junior Catcher Drives in Four as Part of 3-for-4 Day

LONG BEACH,CA-- Catcher Travis Howell drove in the Dirtbags first four runs as No. 26-ranked Long Beach State (21-12, 4-2 Big West) swept visting CS Northridge, winning the Sunday finale 7-2. Howell went 3-for-4, falling a triple short of the cycle, while Robert Perry extended his hit streak to 11 games with a double in the second. With the win, LBSU has won four straight and seven of their last eight.

Manny McElory (2-0), making his appearance since missing six weeks with a strained rib cage, went the first 5.0 innings, giving up one run on two hits, using just 58 pitches for his first win since the opening weekend. It was his first start since February 10.

Jorge Andrade, Jr. had four of CS Northridge's seven hits on the day.

Howell's second home run of the season, a two-run shot to center, in the second, gave LBSU an early 2-0 lead. Howell's double in the fourth then made it 3-1. Howell then made it 4-1 with an RBI single in the fifth. The Beach then broke open the game with two runs in each the fifth and sixth innings to make it 7-1.

Davin Tate gave up two runs on four hits over the first one and two third innings to start for CS Northridge.

The Dirtbags will continue their home stand next week, hosting Loyola Marymount on Tuesday and UC Davis next weekend. In honor of Jackie Robinson on Sunday, CSUN's John Parham and LBSU's Jason Tweedy wore No. 42 for the game.
