Beach Wins Series with 15-1 Win

Beach Pound Out 20 Hits in 15-1 Romp DAVIS, CA-- Robert Perry had a five-hit day, and AJ Pinocchio added four more as part of a 20-hit attack as Long Beach State (18-18-1) won the season series at UC Davis with a 15-1 win. Both were season-high's for the team, who moved back to .500 for the first time since April 2. Perry drove in three with a double and a homer, while Pinocchio drove in two. Evan Longoria, Scott Bradley and Matt Cline added two hits a piece. Andrew Carpenter (6-2) with enough in the tank for his third-straight complete game, instead went eight innings on just 87 pitches, as the righthander struck out five and gave up one run one eight hits. Senior Tom Wolf hit a pinch-hit, two-run homer in the eighth for his first collegiate homer. The Beach pounded out 13 runs on 17 hits over the first six innings off of UCD starter Brent Nichols to lead 13-0. Four times over the first six innings, LBSU sent at least seven men to the plate. LBSU sent 17 men to the plate over the first two innings, pounding out eight hits early to lead 6-0. The Dirtbags then sent 10 more men to the plate in the sixth and scored five more runs to lead 13-0. The Beach ledoff the game with back-to-back bunt singles from Perry and Pinocchio, and ended the first leading 2-0. An RBI single from Longoria plated the first run, before Shane Peterson followed with an RBI groundout to make it 2-0. The Dirtbags then scored four times in the second to lead 6-0. Pinocchio added to the lead in the second with a two-run single to give LBSU a 4-0 advantage. Longoria then stroked a triple to center to make it 5-0. The team's fourth infield hit of the game, by Scott Bradley, made it 6-0. A two-run homer by Perry in the sixth made it 12-0 The series finale will be on Sunday at 1 p.m. |
